경산시는 12일 “남매근린공원과 남천물놀이장을 당초 예정대로 23일까지 연장해 운영할 계획이었으나, 가뭄이 계속되는 상황을 고려해 연장을 하지 않기로 결정했다”고 밝혔다.
이에 따라 남매근린공원, 진량근린공원, 에코토피아근린공원, 남천어린이물놀이장 등 주요 물놀이장은 기존 계획대로 오는 17일까지만 운영한 뒤 문을 닫는다.
시는 폭염 속에서 시민들의 물놀이 수요가 많다는 점을 감안해 시설 운영 기간 연장을 검토했지만, 가뭄이 장기화되면서 용수 확보와 물 절약이 시급하다고 판단했다.
경산시는 물놀이장 운영 변경 사항을 시민들에게 안내하는 한편, 앞으로도 가뭄 상황을 계속해서 점검하고 물 절약 캠페인도 병행할 계획이다.
조현일 경산시장은 “더 많은 시민들이 물놀이를 즐길 수 있도록 연장 운영을 검토했지만, 가뭄이 계속돼 부득이하게 계획을 취소하게 됐다”며 “시민 여러분께서도 가뭄 극복을 위한 물 절약에 적극 동참해주시길 바란다”고 말했다.
