For the 2027 academic year admissions to junior colleges, 91.5% of the total enrollment will be selected through early admissions. In particular, as 74.3% of the total enrollment is concentrated in the first round of early admissions, prospective students hoping to enter junior colleges need to formulate their application strategies starting with the first round of early admissions, which begins this coming September.

According to the Korean Council of Junior Colleges, the total enrollment for junior colleges nationwide for the 2027 academic year is 166,474. Of these, 152,245 (91.5%) will be admitted through early admissions, and 14,229 (8.5%) through regular admissions. Compared to the previous year, the number of students admitted through early admissions decreased by 1,950, and the number admitted through regular admissions decreased by 1,516.

Early admissions for junior colleges are divided into the first and second rounds. A total of 123,671 students (74.3%) will be selected in the first round of early admissions alone, while 28,574 students (17.2%) will be selected in the second round. The proportion of regular admissions is only 8.5%.

Applications for the first round of early admissions will be accepted from September 7 to 30, and for the second round from November 11 to 25. A key feature of the second round is that applications are accepted after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), allowing students to assess their standing based on their estimated scores before deciding whether to apply.

By admission type, the student record-based track accounts for the largest number of students at 114,847 (69%). This is followed by the interview-based track at 21,888 (13.1%), the document-based track at 11%, the practical skills-based track at 7,496 (4.5%), and the CSAT-based track at 2.4%. Given the high proportion of student record-based selections, prospective students should verify each university's specific method of reflecting student records rather than choosing a university based solely on their average GPA. This is because the semesters and subjects reflected, whether excellence semesters are applied, attendance records, and the handling of career-oriented elective subjects vary by university. Since results can differ even with the same student record score depending on the university's conversion method, applicants must carefully review the admission guidelines before applying.

For students with relatively lower academic records, utilizing interview- or document-based admission tracks is a viable option. For interview-based tracks, applicants should prepare in detail regarding their motivation for applying, interest in the major, and career plans after graduation. For document and practical test tracks, it is necessary to check the specific requirements of the university and department in advance to prepare accordingly.

The restructuring of departments at junior colleges to align with industry demands is also a point worth noting. Looking at the recruitment quotas by vocational field for the 2027 academic year, the nursing and health sector accounts for the largest share at 45,760 students (27.5%). This is followed by Mechanical & Electrical & Electronics with 25,120 students (15.1%) and Hotel & Tourism with 22,569 students (13.6%).

Junior colleges are focusing on cultivating talent equipped with practical skills required by the industrial field by expanding industry-linked practical training, field internships, certification acquisition, and customized corporate education. Accordingly, when selecting a college or major, it is important to compare not only simple reputation or the likelihood of admission but also desired job roles, curriculums, field internships, industry-academia collaboration, and employment linkage programs.

In particular, junior college early admissions allow for a different strategy compared to four-year universities, as there is no limit on the number of applications. Since there are no restrictions on the number of applications or regulations prohibiting simultaneous application between four-year university early admissions and junior college early admissions (rounds 1 and 2), applicants can apply to both simultaneously.

However, it is not advisable to blindly increase the number of colleges applied to. In the first round of early admissions, it is crucial to appropriately distribute applications among ambitious, moderate, and safe choices, and to create a combination of applications that matches one's academic performance by comparing the student record conversion methods of the target universities with the previous year's admission results. In particular, for departments with high competition rates, such as nursing and health sciences, one should not assume that the cutoff scores will be low simply because they are junior colleges.

Attention must also be paid to the registration procedures following early admission acceptance. Junior college early admission successful candidates—including those accepted through supplementary admissions as well as initial acceptances—cannot apply for regular or supplementary admissions regardless of whether they register. Even if a student wishes to transfer due to multiple acceptances, they must first complete the process of forfeiting acceptance from their current university before registering at the new one.

Junior colleges in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions are also launching their early admissions campaigns in earnest. Regional junior colleges will select a total of 27,020 students, including 21,010 in the first and second rounds of early admissions, 1,533 in regular admissions, and 4,477 in autonomous admissions. By college, Yeongjin College is recruiting 2,954 students, Yeungnam University of Science and Technology 2,835, and Daegu Health College 2,425. Regional universities are also reorganizing their departments and curricula to align with industrial changes and demands.

Keimyung Culture University is changing department names to focus on AI, while Yeungnam University of Science and Technology is integrating the Webtoon, Game Animation, and Visual & Video Design departments into the AI Contents department. Yeongjin College is consolidating its health-related departments for recruitment, and Kyungpook National University is abolishing the minimum academic record requirement for the Nursing Department, among other changes to admission conditions by college.

An admissions information fair for junior colleges will also be held for prospective students and parents in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions. The Korean Council of Junior Colleges will host the fair at the Cheonma Gymnasium of Yeungnam University of Science and Technology from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on September 11 and from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on September 12. Applicants can obtain admission guidelines and application information at the booths of participating universities, and receive one-on-one admission counseling from university professors and admissions officers.

Admissions experts advise that what matters most in applying for early admission to junior colleges is not "how many applications you submit," but "how accurately you select the university and major that best suit you."

Applicants need to first determine their desired career path and major, compare the admission guidelines of each university, and calculate their student records according to each university's conversion method. Subsequently, it is advisable to decide which universities to apply to in the first round of early admission by comprehensively considering factors such as the previous year's admission results and whether interviews or practical tests are required.

Since the number of students admitted, admission methods, and eligibility requirements for each university are subject to change, applicants must check the final admission guidelines announced by each university's admissions office before submitting their applications.
