19일 경산시에 따르면, 최근 60㎜가량의 비로 일부 지역 가뭄은 해소됐으나, 오랜 기간 마른 땅이 갑작스레 대량의 수분을 머금으면서 논과 밭 가장자리, 농로 등 농경지 지반이 약해질 우려가 커진 것으로 나타났다. 시는 "가뭄이 완전히 해소되려면 앞으로 약 140㎜의 비가 추가로 필요하다"고 설명했다. 하지만 최근 강우로 토양 상태에 급격한 변화가 생겨, 농기계를 이용한 작업 시 안전사고 발생 가능성도 덩달아 높아진 상황이다.

특히 경운기, SS분무기 등 무거운 농기계가 약해진 논둑이나 밭두렁 위를 지나갈 경우, 땅이 붕괴돼 기계가 추락하거나 뒤집힐 위험이 있어 농민들의 각별한 주의가 요구된다. 또 농로 침하와 토사 유실 등으로 인한 통행 불편과 고립 사고도 함께 점검할 방침이다.

경산시는 조현일 시장의 지시에 따라 읍·면·동 단위 현장 대응체계를 강화하고, 농업기술센터 등 관계기관과 협력해 취약지역을 미리 예찰하기로 했다. 논에 물을 대거나 농기계 작업에 앞서 농로와 논둑, 밭두렁의 균열이나 침하 여부를 점검하도록 안내하고, 위험지역 접근을 삼가도록 마을방송과 홍보물을 통해 적극적으로 알릴 계획이다.

조현일 시장은 “최근 내린 비로 가뭄은 일부 해소됐지만, 지반이 약해진 상태라 농기계 작업 중 예상치 못한 사고가 우려된다”며 “작업 전 주변 지반을 꼭 확인하고 위험한 구간은 가까이하지 말아달라”고 당부했다. 이어 “읍·면·동과 관계기관이 힘을 모아 취약지역 점검과 농업인 안전사고 예방에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
