A씨와 B씨는 대구시의회의원 선거에서 선거비용 제한액을 약 150만 원(2.6%) 초과해 지출한 것으로 조사됐다. 또 회계책임자를 거치지 않고 정치자금을 수입·지출하거나 회계보고를 처리한 혐의도 받고 있다.

달서구의회의원 선거에 출마한 C씨와 D씨 역시 선거비용 제한액보다 약 250만 원(5%)을 더 쓴 것으로 드러났다. 이들은 초과 지출한 선거비용 310여 만 원을 정치자금으로 허위 보고한 혐의까지 받고 있다.

공직선거법상 선거비용 제한액을 넘겨 지출한 경우 처벌을 받을 수 있다. 또, 회계책임자를 통하지 않고 정치자금을 거래하거나 허위로 회계보고를 할 경우 정치자금법에 따라 형사처벌을 받게 된다.

달서구선관위 관계자는 “선거비용과 정치자금의 투명성을 위해 앞으로도 위법행위에 대해 철저히 조사하고 엄정히 대응할 계획”이라고 밝혔다.

한편 이번 사건은 경찰 수사와 검찰의 기소 여부 판단 등 형사절차에 따라 처리될 예정이다.
