고령군은 지난 1일 지병으로 별세한 이남철 군수의 장례를 1일부터 3일까지 사흘간 고령군장으로 진행한다고 밝혔다.
군은 관련 조례에 따라 정광호 부군수와 나영완 고령군의회 의장을 공동위원장으로 하는 고령군장례추진위원회를 구성하고 유족 측과 협의를 거쳐 군장으로 장례를 진행하기로 결정했다.
빈소는 고령대가야장례식장에 마련됐다. 발인은 3일 오전 8시에 진행되며, 이어 오전 8시 30분 고령군청 광장에서 영결식이 거행된다. 이후 고인의 유해는 합천추모공원에 안장될 예정이다.
고령군은 군민에게 특별한 공적을 남긴 인물이나 의인, 공무 수행 중 사망한 소속 공무원 등의 장례를 엄숙하게 치를 수 있도록 2022년 ‘고령군 군장 등에 관한 조례’를 제정했다.
현직 고령군수 또는 고령군의회 의장이 재임 중 별세할 경우에는 해당 조례에 따라 군민의 뜻을 모아 공식적인 예우를 갖춰 장례를 진행할 수 있다.
故 이남철 군수는 41년 동안 고령군청에서 공직생활을 이어온 뒤 2022년 민선 8기 고령군수로 취임했다. 이후 재선에 성공하며 민선 9기에도 군정을 맡아왔다.
재임 기간 군민들과의 소통을 강조하며 지역 발전과 군민을 위한 행정에 힘써왔다는 평가를 받고 있다. 특히 공직생활 대부분을 고령군에서 보낸 만큼 지역 현안과 행정에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 군정을 이끌어왔다.

The wake will be held at the Goryeong Daegaya Funeral Home. The funeral procession will depart at 8:00 AM on the 3rd, followed by a memorial service at the Goryeong County Office Plaza at 8:30 AM. Afterward, the remains of the deceased are scheduled to be interred at Hapcheon Memorial Park.

The late Governor Lee Nam-cheol served in public office at the Goryeong County Office for 41 years before taking office as the 8th popularly elected Governor in 2022. After successfully winning re-election, he continued to lead the county administration during the 9th popularly elected term.
He is evaluated as having emphasized communication with residents during his tenure and dedicated himself to regional development and administration for the benefit of the people. In particular, having spent the majority of his public service career in Goryeong County, he led the county administration based on a deep understanding of local issues and administration.
