5일 오전 10시 29분께 울진군 기성면 망양리 인근 해안에서 수영하던 50대 남성 2명이 물에서 나오지 못했다는 신고가 접수됐다.

소방당국과 해경은 갯바위 인근에서 이들을 심정지 상태로 구조해 병원으로 이송했다.

해경은 같은 업체 직원인 이들이 물놀이를 위해 바다에 들어갔다가 사고를 당한 것으로 보고 있다. 당시 현장에는 초속 12~14m의 강한 바람이 불고 파고가 2.5~3m에 달했다.

동해해경청은 중요 상황 발생 시 신속한 보고와 지휘체계를 확립하고 현장 대응세력의 긴급 출동태세를 유지하도록 특별 지시했다.

이어 3분 뒤인 오전 10시 32분께 울진군 근남면 수곡리 한 계곡에서도 수난사고가 발생했다.

물놀이 중 물살에 떠내려간 초등학생을 구조하던 40대 아버지 A씨와 지인 B씨가 물에서 심정지 상태에 빠졌다. 아이는 무사히 구조됐지만 A씨와 B씨는 심정지 상태로 병원에 이송됐다.

경찰과 해경은 목격자 진술 등을 토대로 정확한 사고 경위를 조사하고 있다.

두 사람은 물살에 떠내려간 아이를 구조한 뒤 물에서 심정지 상태가 된 것으로 전해지면서 안타까움을 더하고 있다. 아이는 무사히 구조됐다.

경찰과 해경은 목격자 진술 등을 토대로 정확한 사고 경위를 조사하고 있다.
