【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대경대학교 설립자인 유진선 학교법인 중암학원 이사장이 세계태권도연맹(WT) 이사에 선임됐다.
8일 세계태권도연맹 대회의실에서 열린 2026년 WT 이사회에서 유진선 이사장은 신임 이사로 뽑혔다. 임기는 2030년 9월 7일까지로, 총 4년 동안 이사직을 맡게 된다.
세계태권도연맹은 전 세계 200여 회원국협회를 기반으로, 올림픽과 패럴림픽 태권도 종목의 운영을 총괄하는 국제경기단체다. WT 이사회는 세계 태권도의 주요 정책과 국제대회, 중장기 발전방향 등을 논의하고 결정하는 핵심 의사결정기구로, 총 7명으로 구성된다.
유 이사장은 앞으로 WT 이사로서 태권도 관련 주요 정책 결정은 물론, 국제 교류 확대와 태권도 교육, 글로벌 인재 육성에도 적극적으로 참여할 예정이다.
대경대학교는 이번 유 이사장의 선임을 계기로, 대학이 운영하는 태권도 특성화 교육을 세계 태권도 네트워크와 연결하고, 학생들의 해외 진출과 국제대회 참여 등 교육의 국제화를 한층 강화할 계획이다.
현재 대경대학교는 태권도학과를 중심으로 겨루기, 품새, 시범뿐만 아니라 해외 사범과 지도자 양성 등 실전 중심 교육을 실시하고 있다. 이와 함께 국내외 대회 및 국제 교류 활동도 활발히 이어오고 있다.
유진선 이사장은 “태권도는 대한민국을 대표하는 스포츠이자, 세계인이 함께 공유하는 소중한 문화적 자산”이라며 “세계태권도연맹 이사로서 태권도의 지속 가능한 발전과 세계화, 그리고 미래 세대 글로벌 태권도 전문 인재 양성을 위해 힘쓰겠다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
대경대학교는 유 이사장의 WT 이사 선임을 계기로 해외 회원국 및 태권도 관련 기관과의 교류를 더욱 확대하고, 태권도 전공 학생들의 해외 활동 및 글로벌 지도자 양성 기회를 넓혀나갈 방침이다.

Yoo Jin-sun, founder of Daekyeung University and Chairperson of the Joongam Academy Foundation, has been appointed as a Council Member of World Taekwondo (WT).
Chairperson Yoo was selected as a new Council Member during the WT Council meeting held on the 8th at the World Taekwondo headquarters. Her term runs until September 7, 2030, spanning a total of four years.
World Taekwondo (WT) is the international governing body responsible for overseeing taekwondo events at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, supported by a network of approximately 200 member national associations worldwide. The WT Council, composed of seven members, serves as the core decision-making body that deliberates and determines key policies, international competitions, and mid-to-long-term development strategies for the sport.
As a WT Council Member, Chairperson Yoo plans to actively participate not only in major policy decisions regarding taekwondo but also in expanding international exchanges, advancing taekwondo education, and fostering global talent.
Leveraging this appointment, Daekyeung University intends to link its specialized taekwondo education programs with the global taekwondo network and further strengthen the internationalization of its curriculum—facilitating opportunities for students to advance overseas and participate in international competitions.
Currently, Daekyeung University’s Department of Taekwondo offers practical, hands-on training covering sparring, *poomsae* (forms), and demonstrations, as well as programs to train instructors and leaders for overseas roles. The university also actively engages in domestic and international competitions and exchange activities.
"Taekwondo is a sport that represents South Korea and a precious cultural asset shared by people around the world," said Chairperson Yoo. "As a member of the World Taekwondo Council, I will dedicate myself to the sustainable development and globalization of taekwondo, as well as the cultivation of global taekwondo experts for future generations." Leveraging Chairman Yoo’s appointment as a World Taekwondo (WT) Council member, Daekyeung University plans to further expand exchanges with overseas member nations and Taekwondo-related organizations, while broadening opportunities for Taekwondo majors to engage in overseas activities and develop into global leaders.
