Kyungpook National University organized an event where local university students and citizens could collaborate to identify real-world local issues and propose tailored solutions.

The university’s Institute for Regional Strategic Industry Innovation announced on the 10th that it held the final presentation and awards ceremony for the "Open Problem-Solving APBL Project for Community Innovation" on the 4th.

Eleven teams, comprising undergraduates, graduate students, and citizens, participated in the project. Starting with a networking event in late July, they spent approximately five weeks refining their solutions through joint training, field research, team mentoring, expert consultations, and interim presentations.

The participating teams addressed a wide range of topics, including industry and economy, jobs and startups, population and residency, culture and tourism, and daily life and welfare. Participants visited local sites to identify issues firsthand and proposed practical solutions, such as service prototypes and policy recommendations.

The Grand Prize went to the "TEAMPL" team for their project, "TEAMPL BizConnect." They received high praise for introducing a new platform that analyzes commercial districts and stores using public data and AI technology, while connecting the content-creation skills of university students with the promotional needs of local small business owners. The platform is designed to provide small business owners with customized promotional content while offering university students valuable hands-on experience.

The Top Excellence Award was jointly awarded to the "Ieobom" team, which addressed the issue of interrupted learning continuity when educational volunteers change, and the "D-to" team, which developed a system for planning visitor routes in local alleyway commercial districts. "Ieobom" devised a service prototype that allows the content of lessons from a departing volunteer to be accurately handed over to the next one, focusing on minimizing potential gaps in learning during volunteer transitions. "Ditto" launched the "Degul-Degul" service, which enables efficient visits to multiple stores based on data regarding users' schedules, group sizes, and preferences.

The Excellence Award went to "Dandi Nursing," which improved access to caregiving information for young family caregivers, and "D-fit," which combined heatwave response measures with the revitalization of local commercial districts. "Dandi Nursing" proposed a practical, ready-to-implement solution that conveys complex information easily through short videos and QR-coded guides. "D-fit" developed the "Shade Pass" service—renting out parasols made from waste fibers—and created a model that links parasol rentals with benefits at local shops.

The APBL project went beyond a simple idea contest; it was distinguished by the fact that participants conducted on-site research and refined their solutions by incorporating expert advice.

Evaluation criteria focused on the completeness of the final output, the utilization of information and resources, the understanding of local issues, feasibility, and the potential for community contribution and scalability. Fairness and expertise were ensured through the participation of officials from the Presidential Committee on Regional Development, Daegu Metropolitan City, the Daegu Institute for Regional Policy, and the Daegu Center for Creative Economy & Innovation.

An official from the Regional Strategic Industry Innovation Institute stated, "Key criteria for this APBL project were a concrete, in-depth understanding of local issues and the development of practically feasible proposals based on that understanding." The official added, "We actively supported a process where participants conducted their own research and personally built and refined their ideas by connecting university educational capabilities with the experience of field experts," noting, "We will continue to explore validation and collaboration methods to ensure the proposed ideas can be applied in real-world settings."
