[Break News Pohang] Reporter Park Young-jae — One of the crew members who went missing following the capsizing of a tugboat off the coast of Busan has been found dead on a beach in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Busan Coast Guard announced on the 10th that the body discovered at Dogu Beach in Nam-gu, Pohang, at approximately 8:48 a.m. on the 9th was confirmed to be one of the missing crew members from the tugboat capsizing incident near Oryukdo, Busan.

According to the Coast Guard, the deceased was identified as a South Korean crew member in his 50s. The forensic unit of the East Sea Regional Coast Guard confirmed his identity by analyzing a mobile phone found in his possession and cross-referencing fingerprint data.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that the crew member, having gone missing at the time of the accident, drifted with ocean currents and tides to Pohang, a location more than 100 kilometers away from the accident site.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of the 2nd in waters near Oryukdo, Busan. The 286-ton tugboat *T&S Catcher* capsized and subsequently sank while towing a vessel that had suffered engine failure. The hull was later located on the seabed at a depth of approximately 87 meters.

At the time, eight people—six South Koreans and two Indonesians—were on board. One Indonesian crew member was rescued by a nearby vessel, while one South Korean crew member was rescued but later died after being transported to a hospital.

With the discovery of this additional missing crew member in Pohang, the current toll stands at two confirmed deaths and five missing persons.

Having confirmed that a missing person had drifted a considerable distance from the accident site, the Coast Guard has expanded its search area to include the East Coast.

The maritime search zone, previously measuring 31 km in width and 70 km in length, is being expanded to 31 km in width and 141 km in length. The Coast Guard plans to deploy 16 vessels and five aircraft for the daytime search operation.

Coast Guard, military, and civilian personnel are participating in the search along the coasts of Pohang and Uljin, in addition to Busan and Ulsan. Fifteen military thermal observation devices (TODs) are also being utilized in the search.

Weather conditions remain a variable. A high-seas advisory was issued for the waters near the accident site on the morning of the 10th due to strong northeasterly winds and waves reaching approximately 2 meters in height. Consequently, the Coast Guard decided not to conduct underwater search operations for the day.

The shipping company is considering deploying civilian deep-sea divers around the 15th, weather permitting. It is reported that the divers will assess the sunken hull and the surrounding underwater environment before deciding whether to search the interior of the vessel.

The Coast Guard intends to concentrate its search efforts on locating the five remaining missing persons by conducting simultaneous searches at sea and along the coast.
