Daegu City announced the launch of comprehensive economic revitalization measures aimed at reviving sluggish local consumer sentiment and easing the financial burden on self-employed individuals and small business owners ahead of the Chuseok holiday and the year-end season.
On the 10th, Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho presided over the "5th Emergency Economic Response Meeting" at the Daegu Merchants' Hall, where he personally unveiled plans to revitalize the local economy and announced comprehensive measures for the Chuseok holiday.
These measures, which will be implemented across the region throughout the autumn, encompass a wide range of initiatives, including rebate events at traditional markets, the largest-ever promotional campaign for "Onnuri" gift certificates, the issuance of "Daegu-ro Pay," and financial support totaling 500 billion won.
As a key measure to boost the local economy, Daegu City will offer rebates of up to 20,000 won in Onnuri gift certificates to customers who spend 67,000 won or more on agricultural, livestock, and marine products at 24 local traditional markets. Mobile queuing systems will be introduced at nine locations, including Beongae Market and Seomun Market. The program involves a scale of approximately 100 billion won, featuring a 10% discount rate and a purchase limit of 300,000 won. Additionally, consumers can enjoy a total discount benefit of 15%—comprising the standard discount plus an extra 5% cashback—when using designated "Good Price" establishments.
From October 12 to 21, a simultaneous promotion will run across 80 traditional markets, offering Onnuri gift certificates worth 5,000 won for purchases of 30,000 won or more, and 10,000 won for purchases of 50,000 won or more. The scale of this initiative has been expanded from 930 million won last year to 3.5 billion won, with an expected increase in sales revenue ranging from approximately 18.8 billion to 28.6 billion won. In addition, starting October 12, the city will implement measures such as promoting local commercial districts and hosting autumn festivals, revitalizing the Dongseong-ro and Gyodong commercial areas, and providing financial support (totaling 500 billion won) to SMEs and small business owners.
Daegu City will also minimize administrative gaps during the holiday period through a comprehensive plan comprising 18 tasks across four key areas: stabilizing livelihoods, ensuring public safety, enhancing citizen convenience, and fostering a prosperous atmosphere. Top priority will be placed on stabilizing prices for holiday goods and resolving overdue wage payments. To prevent gaps in medical care, the city will operate a 24-hour disaster safety center and emergency medical system, including the designation of medical facilities for pediatric care during nights and holidays. Furthermore, the city plans to expand free parking by over 5,000 spaces, maintain normal operations at the "120 Dalgubeol Call Center," and provide daily necessities and cash to 14,600 vulnerable individuals to foster a warm holiday spirit.
At the meeting, Mayor Choo Kyung-ho emphasized, "Immediate solutions are required when the local economy is struggling," adding, "We will mobilize all policy tools—including boosting consumption, revitalizing commercial districts, and providing financial support—to alleviate the public's burdens." He also urged merchants to offer high-quality products and friendly service while expressing his commitment to implementing airtight measures across safety, medical, and transportation sectors.
