A field experience program is being organized for 20 Daegu citizens to visit Dokdo in person and learn about its historical, cultural, and geographical significance.

On the 14th, the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency announced a recruitment drive for the "2026 Dokdo Protection Field Education and Tour." The program aims to foster a correct understanding of Dokdo’s history, geography, and culture among citizens and to build a consensus on the importance of protecting the island.

The program will take place over three days and two nights, from October 20 to 22, on Ulleungdo and Dokdo. Rather than a simple sightseeing trip, the itinerary includes diverse activities such as special lectures on Dokdo’s history, on-site education, and explorations of Ulleungdo’s historical sites, cultural landmarks, and natural environment. Participants will have the opportunity to see Dokdo with their own eyes and learn through firsthand experience.

Eligibility is open to healthy citizens aged 19 or older who are registered residents of Daegu. Applicants must be physically capable of enduring long periods of travel by ship and walking tours; applications must be submitted in teams of two. A total of 20 participants will be selected.

Participation is entirely free of charge. Selected citizens will receive full financial support for all necessary expenses, including round-trip transportation, ferry fares, accommodation, meals, program fees, facility admission fees, and travel insurance.

Participants will attend a special lecture on Dokdo’s history and visit the island itself for exploration activities. They will also tour major attractions on Ulleungdo—such as Chotdaeam Rock, Gwaneumdo Island, Bongnae Waterfall, and the Dokdo Museum—and a session will be held after the tour for participants to share their impressions.

Applications can be submitted online via the Daegu Lifelong Learning Platform from the 14th until 4:00 PM on the 28th. Final participants will be selected through a random computerized lottery among eligible applicants, and the results will be announced on October 2. Selected participants are required to attend a preliminary orientation session on October 7.

An official from the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency stated, "Thanks to the city council's enactment of the ordinance, we are able to stably prepare for this major journey involving 20 citizens," adding, "We will do our utmost to provide on-site support to ensure the citizens complete the tour safely."
