【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구지역 이주배경 학생들이 이중언어 능력을 겨루는 자리에 모였다. 7일 대구 엑스코(EXCO)에서 ‘제14회 대구광역시교육청 이중언어말하기대회’ 본선이 열려, 예선을 통과한 학생 24명이 본선에 참가해 각자의 한국어 실력과 모국어 능력을 마음껏 선보였다.

이번 대회는 대구시교육청이 주최하고, 대구한의대학교 다문화복지한국어학과가 주관했다. 참가 학생들은 중국어, 러시아어, 베트남어, 일본어, 우르두어, 암하라어 등 다양한 언어로 자신의 경험과 꿈을 두 언어로 풀어냈다.

대회는 이주배경 학생들에게 이중언어 사용 능력의 가치를 알리고, 언어와 문화의 다양성을 교육 현장에서 소중한 자산으로 삼기 위해 마련됐다. 단순히 한국어 실력만 평가하는 것이 아니라, 학생 각자의 모국어와 문화적 배경을 당당히 표현할 수 있도록 해, 이중언어 역량이 미래 사회에서의 중요한 경쟁력임을 강조했다.

이번 대회에서 1~3위에 오른 학생들은 오는 11월 14일 전국 이중언어말하기대회에 대구 대표로 참가하게 된다. 수상 학생들에게는 대구시교육감상과 대구한의대학교 총장상이 수여됐다.

남미경 대구한의대 교학부총장은 “이주배경 학생들의 강점이 더 빛날 수 있도록 대학의 역할을 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다. 윤갑정 대구한의대 다문화복지한국어학과장 역시 “학생들이 자신의 언어와 문화를 소중한 자산으로 삼아 세계시민으로 성장하길 바란다”고 전했다.

Rather than merely evaluating Korean language proficiency, the event encouraged students to confidently express their native languages ​​and cultural backgrounds, emphasizing that bilingual competence is a crucial competitive edge in the future society.

The top three finishers in this contest will represent Daegu at the National Bilingual Speech Contest scheduled for November 14. Award-winning students received the Daegu Metropolitan City Superintendent of Education Award and the Daegu Haany University President's Award.

Nam Mi-kyung, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Daegu Haany University, stated, "We will expand the university's role to ensure that the strengths of students with migrant backgrounds can shine even brighter." Yoon Gap-jeong, Head of the Department of Multicultural Welfare and Korean Language, added, "I hope these students grow into global citizens by embracing their languages ​​and cultures as valuable assets."
