【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구보건대학교가 전국의 고등학생들 가운데 봉사와 효행을 실천한 청소년 36명을 선정해 표창했다.

대구보건대는 지난 11일 본관 9층 소회의실에서 ‘제29회 인당봉사상·보현효행상 시상식’을 열고, 전국 75개 고등학교에서 추천받은 122명 중 최종 수상자를 가렸다.

‘인당봉사상’ 대상은 광양백운고 3학년 박소연 학생에게, ‘보현효행상’ 대상은 창원봉림고 3학년 허지웅 학생에게 돌아갔다.

박소연 학생은 종이접기 등 자신의 재능을 살린 봉사뿐 아니라 아동센터 지도, 요양병원 말벗 자원봉사 등 다양한 분야에서 829시간 넘게 꾸준히 봉사해온 점이 높게 평가됐다.

‘효행상’ 대상을 받은 허지웅 학생은 가족을 위해 희생하며 성실한 학교생활을 이어온 것이 크게 인정받았다. 특히 어려운 가족 사정 속에서 아버지에게 간 이식을 결심하고 수술을 받은 뒤에도 학업을 계속해, 주변에 감동을 줬다는 평가를 받았다.

대상 수상자에겐 각 100만 원, 최우수상 각 50만 원, 우수상 각 30만 원, 장려상 등 상금도 전달됐다.

남성희 대구보건대 총장은 “봉사와 효행은 거창한 것보다, 이웃과 가족을 챙기는 작은 실천에서부터 시작된다”며 “수상자들의 따뜻한 마음과 용기가 다른 청소년들에게도 울림이 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

대구보건대는 1998년부터 인당봉사상과 보현효행상을 통해 지금까지 2,870여 명의 청소년을 발굴해왔으며, 4억 원 이상의 장학금도 전달했다.

학교 관계자는 “앞으로도 봉사와 효행을 실천하는 청소년들을 꾸준히 찾아 격려할 계획”이라고 전했다.

Daegu Health University has selected and honored 36 high school students from across the country who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to volunteerism and filial piety.

Park So-yeon was highly commended for her consistent volunteer work totaling over 829 hours across various fields; she utilized her talents—such as paper folding—to serve others and also volunteered as a mentor at a children's center and as a companion for patients at a nursing hospital.

Heo Ji-ung, the Grand Prize winner of the "Filial Piety Award," was recognized for his dedication to his family and his diligent attitude toward school life. He particularly moved those around him by deciding to donate part of his liver to his father despite difficult family circumstances and continuing his studies even after undergoing the surgery.

Cash prizes were awarded to the winners: 1 million won for the Grand Prize, 500,000 won for the Top Excellence Award, 300,000 won for the Excellence Award, and additional prizes for the Encouragement Award.

Nam Sung-hee, President of Daegu Health University, stated, "Volunteerism and filial piety do not require grand gestures; they begin with small acts of caring for one's neighbors and family." She added, "I hope the warm hearts and courage of these award recipients will inspire other young people."

Since 1998, Daegu Health University has recognized approximately 2,870 youths through the Indang Volunteer Service Award and the Bohyeon Filial Piety Award, awarding over 400 million won in scholarships. A school official stated, "We plan to continue identifying and encouraging young people who practice volunteerism and filial piety."
