대구시당은 지난 14일 상무위원회에서 ‘경북대 후속 선정 촉구 결의문’을 채택했고, 15일엔 민주당 전국 시·도당위원장 연석회의에서 김민석 당대표에게 이 결의문을 직접 전달했다고 밝혔다.

박형룡 대구시당위원장은 이날 국회를 찾아 권칠승 정책위원회 의장, 임미애 국회의원에게도 경북대의 후속 선정 필요성과 함께 대구지역 주요 현안에 대한 당의 적극 지원을 요청했다.

대구시당은 경북대 후속 선정이 단지 한 대학만의 문제가 아니라고 강조했다. 박 위원장은 “지방에서 청년 인구 유출이 계속되는 상황에서, 경북대의 선정 여부는 대학 순위의 문제가 아니라 지역이 어떻게 우수 인재를 확보하고 성장 기반을 다질 수 있느냐의 문제”라고 밝혔다. 또 “대구·경북이 5극 3특과 같은 지방주도성장 체제에서 중심 역할을 하기 위해서도 경북대의 역할이 중요하다”고 덧붙였다.

박 위원장은 “경북대가 후속 선정될 수 있도록 당 지도부가 힘을 보태달라”고 거듭 부탁했다.

대구시당은 앞으로도 당 지도부와 국회 등을 상대로 경북대 후속 선정의 필요성을 지속 건의할 계획이다. 또 후속 선정 논의가 실제 성과로 이어질 수 있도록 계속 대응해 나갈 방침이다.

Chairman Park repeatedly urged the party leadership to lend their support to ensure KNU is included in the subsequent selection round.
