박용선 포항시장은 15일 김정재·이상휘 국회의원과 송언석 전 원내대표를 만나 영일만횡단대교 사업의 노선 문제와 추진 방안을 논의했다.

이날 참석자들은 사업 당초 취지를 고려해 해상노선을 추진하는 데 의견을 같이하고, 향후 정부에 같은 입장을 전달하며 사업 추진에 공동 대응하기로 했다.

박 시장은 이어 국회 예산결산특별위원회 이광재 위원장을 만나 사업 추진 상황을 설명하고 내년도 관련 국비 예산 확보에 대한 협조를 요청했다.

영일만횡단대교 건설사업은 현재 한국개발연구원(KDI)의 사업 적정성 검토가 막바지 단계에 있다. 이후 연내 기획재정부 재정사업평가위원회 심의를 거쳐 국토교통부가 최종 노선을 확정하는 절차가 남아 있다.

포항시는 해상노선이 확정되면 실시설계 등 후속 절차를 본격화할 수 있을 것으로 보고 있다. 현재까지 사업 추진을 위해 확보된 국비는 485억원이다.

영일만횡단대교는 포항 영일만을 가로질러 지역 교통망을 확충하고 환동해권 물류 거점 기능을 강화하기 위한 사업으로 추진되고 있다. 포항시는 사업의 조속한 추진을 위해 중앙정부와 국회에 지속적으로 협조를 요청할 계획이다.

박용선 포항시장은 “영일만횡단대교는 지역의 주요 현안인 만큼 더 이상 사업 추진이 늦어져서는 안 된다”며 “지역 정치권과 협력해 해상노선 추진 필요성을 정부에 전달하고 조속한 착공으로 이어질 수 있도록 국비 확보에도 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

The attendees agreed to pursue the offshore route—consistent with the project's original intent—and decided to present a unified stance to the government while collaborating on the project's advancement.

Mayor Park subsequently met with Lee Kwang-jae, Chairman of the National Assembly's Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, to explain the project's status and request cooperation in securing the necessary state budget for the coming year.

The Yeongilman Crossing Bridge project is currently in the final stages of a project feasibility review by the Korea Development Institute (KDI). Remaining steps include a review by the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee later this year, followed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s finalization of the route.

Pohang City anticipates that once the offshore route is confirmed, it can accelerate subsequent procedures, such as detailed design. To date, 48.5 billion won in state funding has been secured for the project.

The Yeongilman Crossing Bridge project aims to expand the local transportation network by spanning Pohang’s Yeongil Bay and to strengthen the city's role as a logistics hub for the Pan-East Sea region. Pohang City plans to continue requesting cooperation from the central government and the National Assembly to ensure the project moves forward quickly.

Pohang Mayor Park Yong-seon stated, "As the Yeongilman Bay Crossing Bridge is a key local issue, the project must not be delayed any further." He added, "We will cooperate with local political circles to convey the necessity of the offshore route to the government and strive to secure the necessary state funding to ensure construction begins promptly."
