The Daegu Cultural Foundation (CEO Seung-ik Lee) announced that it would hold a policy forum on the 25th to find the direction to create a visual arts cluster for each era in Daegu that will promote the development of visual arts in the region in the future.

This policy forum was prepared to contemplate the direction of the creation of a visual art cluster by era linking the Daegu Song Art Museum, which will start full-scale construction next month, the Daegu Modern Art Museum, which is being actively promoted by the local art world, and the Daegu Art Museum.

The Daegu Song Art Museum, which will cover the pre-modern period, is scheduled to be operated by the Kansong Art and Culture Foundation and will be built in the vicinity of the Daegu Art Museum (Samdeok-dong, Suseong-gu) on a scale of 1 basement level and 3 basement floors (total floor area of 8,300㎡).

After the groundbreaking ceremony was held on the morning of the policy forum, the construction of the museum will be completed in July of next year, and the goal is to open in the second half of that year.

The Daegu Museum of Modern Art is in the midst of setting the site of the provincial government office designated as a special urban convergence zone as a target site and is in the midst of attracting it as a national facility.

Daegu Art Museum, which has been planning 110 exhibitions for 10 years since its opening in 2011, has been promoting the “5-year collection plan” with a goal of 3,000 pieces from last year.

More than half of the target number had already been collected around May of last year, and more than 400 works continued to be donated last year alone, including 21 items from the collection of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee, as well as donations from small and active local artists.

At this policy forum, Director Jeon In-geon of the Kansong Art Museum presented the 'vision and management plan of the Daegu Kansong Museum of Art,' and former Director Won-bok Lee of the National Museum of Korea presented the 'necessity of the nation's balanced enjoyment of classical art', and discussion by Director Ham Sun-seop of the Daegu Museum this goes on

In addition, former president of the Society of Modern Art History Cho Eun-jung emphasized 'the status of Daegu in Korean modern and contemporary art and the necessity of a modern museum,' while Dong-wook Oh, a research fellow at the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute, emphasized 'a vision for the future of Daegu city through the creation of visual arts infrastructure for each era'. Critics give their opinions on this.

Daegu Cultural Foundation CEO Lee Seung-ik said, “There are many great artists who have led the development of Korean art in Daegu, and Daegu citizens have high knowledge and interest in art. “It is expected that the visual arts cluster will instill in Daegu the image of a city of art and culture that is unique nationwide,” he said.
