【브레이크뉴스 경북 구미】이성현 기자=새마을세계화재단(대표이사 장동희)은 스리랑카 정부가 새마을세계화사업을 함께 추진하기 위해 재단 시범마을인 피티예가마, 헤와디웰러, 왈폴라에 4명의 공무원을 파견하기로 결정했다고 25일 밝혔다.

새마을세계화재단에 따르면 이번 공무원 파견은 재단의 새마을시범마을들이 위치한 사바라가무와주티기리 코페카두(Tikiri Kobbekaduwa) 주지사 요청으로 이루어졌다.

지난해 6월, 피티예가마 시범마을과 헤와디웰라시범마을을 방문해 새마을세계화사업의 성과를 확인한 코페카두주지사는 새마을세계화사업의 안정적이고 지속적인 추진과 관리를 위해중앙정부에 공무원 파견을 요청하였으며, 이에 따라 스리랑카 내무부가 공무원을 파견한 것이다.

지난달 2주간 재단의 시범마을에서 현장연수를 받고 2월 1일 정식 파견된 이들은 재단의 시범마을이 소재해 있는 람북카나 구에 소속되어 시범마을 현지에서 1년간 근무하며, 재단의 사업을 함께 추진하고 행정지원을 하는 등 새마을세계화사업과 관련된 업무만을 수행한다.

왈폴라 새마을시범마을에 파견된 구나라쓰나(Gunarathna) 주무관은 “새마을세계화사업은 사바라가무와주가 자랑스러워하는 사업이며, 다른 지역 주민들이 시범마을 주민들을 무척 부러워한다. 특히 새마을시범마을 고유브랜드인 ‘새마을 케골 버섯’은 유명 마트에서 유통되는 경쟁력 있는 상품이다. 새마을세계화사업 현장을 직접 경험할 수 있는 소중한 기회인만큼 많은 것을 보고 배워 스리랑카의 발전에 도움이 되는 공무원이 되고 싶다.”고 포부를 밝혔다.

재단의 장동희 대표이사는 “이번 공무원 파견을 통해 스리랑카 정부가 새마을세계화사업의 성과에 얼마나 큰 관심을 갖고 있는지를 다시 한 번 느낄 수 있었다”며 “새마을세계화사업이 스리랑카의 지속가능한 발전 토대가 될 수 있도록 앞으로도 꾸준히 현지 정부와 협력하겠다”고 말했다.
