Mungyeong National Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Center, Selected as a project to revitalize the Cultural Heritage Administration’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center

The Mungyeong National Intangible Cultural Heritage Center announced on the 30th that it will be selected for the 2021 Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center revitalization project by the Cultural Heritage Administration and will implement various programs under the theme of ‘World Intangible Cultural Heritage and Korea’s Sagijang (沙器匠)’.

Mungyeong National Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Center is a training facility operated by Kim Jeong-ok, a national intangible cultural asset that possesses the Joseon white porcelain production technology that has been handed down for nine generations for over 300 years.

This project, sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration, is designed to illuminate the academic value inherent in the 'traditional pottery making technique' of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Sakejang, which has contributed to promoting the value of traditional Korean pottery at home and abroad.

The purpose of this project is to raise awareness of the importance of traditional Korean pottery making techniques and to build a foundation for national and international cooperation and support for protection as intangible cultural heritage.

As for the details of the program, a pottery culture class for the returning farmers, returning villagers, and returning homemakers from Mungyeong-si is being held 10 times on Saturdays and Sundays from July 24 to August 22.

After that, depending on the COVID-19 situation, it will be operated 10 times for foreign students and embassy staff.

Also, in October, experts from various fields related to intangible cultural heritage will be invited to hold an international symposium and other world intangible cultural heritage performance events.

Baeksan Heritage Research Center (Director Nam-hee Kim) said, “Through this project, we will expand the scope of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center as an institution for conducting international exchanges, and lay the foundation for further linked projects.”
