영천시는 지난 24일 신성일로 등 19건의 도로명 변경 건에 대해 도로명판 설치를 완료했다고 27일 밝혔다.

시에 따르면 이번 도로명 변경은 국민불편 개선사업의 일환 및 주민건의 등에 따라 주민의견수렴, 주소정보위원회 심의 후 과반수의 주민동의를 거쳤다.

주요 변경사항은 봉동에서 대창면 직천리까지 이어지는 8킬로미터의 하이브리드로를 현실과 맞게 도로구간을 나누어 신성일로, 산업단지로, 본촌마을길, 정동마을길 등으로 변경했다.

하이브리드로는 현실과 맞지 않는 긴 외래어로써 주소 사용에 대한 주민 불편을 야기하고 위치찾기의 어려움을 초래했다.

변경된 도로명은 지역 문화 및 지명을 반영함에 따라 위치찾기에 도움을 줄 것으로 보이며, 특히 신성일 생가가 위치한 괴연동 일원을 ‘신성일로’로 변경함에 따라 관광자원 홍보 및 길찾기에 큰 기여를 할 것으로 보인다.

또한, 시는 화랑설화마을이 위치한 거여로 일원을 ‘화랑설화마을로’로 명예도로명을 부여했다. 명예도로명은 실제 주소로는 사용하지 않으며, 기업 유치 또는 국제교류 목적으로 추가로 부여한 도로명이다.
