이날 훈련은 영일대 해수욕장 인근 해상에서 어선이 전복된 상황을 가정해이뤄졌으며, 기존의 방식과 달리 신고접수와 동시에 포항해양경찰 각 현장세력들이 실제 기동하는 방식으로 전복선박 발생 시 초동대응 및 해상표류자 수색, 선내 고립자 구조, 해양오염 사전 차단임무까지의 과정을신속하게진행했다.

이번 훈련은 포항구조대, 포항항공대, 거점파출소, 대형함정 구조직별 인원 대상으로 이뤄졌으며, 구조영역이 서로 다른 현장부서 구조대원들 간전복선박 발생 시 각 세력별 임무를 정립하고 숙달 할 수 있는 기회의 장이 되었다.

훈련을 주관한 포항해양경찰서는“오늘 훈련은 실제 발생할 수 있는 상황을가정해 모의선박을 활용하여 훈련을 수립, 실시하였고 앞으로도 국민의 생명과재산을 보호하기 위해 실질적인 훈련을 통한 만일의 사고에 대응할 수 있는 능력을제고해 나가겠다”라고 전했다.
