POSCO conducts underwater cleanup volunteer work with the Coast Guard on the occasion of Ocean Day

The POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Corps announced on the 27th that it had conducted a joint underwater volunteer activity with the Pohang Maritime Police Station to preserve the marine environment of Yeongil Bay Port ahead of the 27th Ocean Day.

On this day, around 100 volunteers from five organizations, including the POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Corps, the Poyang Maritime Police Station, the Pohang Regional Maritime Affairs Office, and the Marine Rescue Association, gathered at Yeongil Bay Port.

The POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Group led its own vessel and headed to the sea area in front of the Yeongil Bay Northern Breakwater, where garbage is easy to accumulate. The Clean Ocean Volunteers wore skin scuba equipment and directly entered the waters in front of the Yeongil Bay Northern Breakwater and collected marine debris such as waste nets, waste fishing gear, and waste plastics. At the same time, the area around the fishing boat pier in Yeongilman Bay and the coast were also crowded with volunteers from each organization carrying out marine cleanup activities.

Superintendent Kim Hyung-min, chief of the Pohang Maritime Police Station, said, "It was a more meaningful time for POSCO and other organizations to work together with one mind to protect the blue sea." Thank you, and I was touched by the enthusiasm of the POSCO employees who ran to Yeongil Bay in a month on the occasion of Ocean Day today.”

Manager Lee Sang-gil, head of the POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Corps, also said, "We will do our best to clean up the ocean in the future with the heart of protecting the clean sea, a specialty of Pohang."

Meanwhile, the POSCO Clean Ocean Volunteer Corps, which has been leading underwater purification activities in Pohang and nearby areas since its foundation in 2009, was recognized for its contribution to the conservation of the marine ecosystem last year and received the Presidential Citation at the National Recommendation Award by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.
