최경환 전 부총리 측 관계자는 “이번 특강은 대학수학능력시험을 마치고 사회에 첫발을 내딛는 고등학교 3학년 학생들에게 사회초년생으로서 필요한 올바른 경제적 가치관을 제공한다는 취지로 마련됐다”며 “지금까지 3회 실시했는데, 학생들이 복잡한 현대 경제시스템을 잘 이해하고 재정적 지식과 책임감을 갖추도록 돕는 데 목적을 두었다. 일각에서는 우리가 마치 순수하지 못한 의도를 가지고, 정치적 의도만을 가지고 제기하고 밀어붙인 듯이 말하지만, 사실과는 다르다. 멈추지도 않았다. 계속 요청이 오고 있고, 지금은 순서를 정하고 있을 뿐이다. 공익적인 행사인 만큼 최선을 다해 봉사할 것이고, 경제를 먼저 공부한 사람으로 학생들에게 유익한 정보를 제공하는 것은 우리 어른들이 당연히 해야 할 일이라고 생각한다. 특강은 계속 제공할 것”이라고 말했다.
