【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국원자력환경공단은 24일 부산 벡스코에서 한국원자력산업협회가주최하는 2024 한국원자력연차대회 중‘고준위방폐물 관리와 특별법의필요성’에 대한 특별 세션을 개최했다.

이번 특별법 세션은 산업통상자원부 김진 국장(원전전략기획관)과 학계의장문희 교수(포항공과대학교), 김창락 교수(한전 국제원자력대학원대학교) 김서용교수(아주대학교)를 비롯하여 산업계 유관기관 관계자 및 미래세대(조선대, 부경대 등)130여명이 참석했다.

현재 특별법은 여·야에서 발의한 4건(김성환·김영식·이인선·홍익표)의법안이 지난 ‘22.11월부터 국회 심의 중이며, 무엇보다 원전내 저장시설포화 대비 건식저장시설 주민수용성 확보 등을 위해 21대 국회 회기내에 반드시 통과가 필요한 상황이다.

이날 특별세션에서는 서울대 최성열 교수가 사회를 맡아 진행하였으며, 정재학 학회장(한국방사성폐기물학회)은 고준위방폐물 관리 문제의 원인 과접근방법을 제시하고 지금까지의 특별법 제정 추진경위를 바탕으로 21대 회기내 특별법 제정 촉구를 강조했다.

채병곤 박사(한국지질자원연구원)는 심층처분 방식에 대한 국제기관의 견해와 기술적고려사항을 소개하고 이러한 심층처분의 장기간 일관적인 진행을 위해법제화의 필요성을 언급했다.

조성돈 이사장은 “고준위 특별법 제정은 고준위방폐물 관리에 대한 국민의 안전을 지키고 미래세대의 부담을 해소할 수 있는 유일한 해결방안이며, 다음 단계로 나아가기 위한 시작의 출발점임을 여야 의원님들이 헤아려 주시고, 얼마남지 않은 21대 국회 회기 내에 반드시 특별법 제정을 간곡하게 부탁드린다. ”라고 말했다.
