【브레이크뉴스 예천】이성현 기자=예천군이 지난 21일부터 26일까지 6일간 예천진호국제양궁장에서 개최한 2024 현대양궁월드컵이 성황리에 막을 내렸다.

27일 예천군에 따르면 대한민국은 3개 금메달, 은메달 3개, 동메달 1개를 안기며 양궁 강국의 위상을 다시 보여줬다.

컴파운드에서 강세를 보인 미국은 남자 단체전/개인전, 혼성 단체전에서 금메달을 차지했고 남자 개인전 은메달/여자 단체전 동메달을 포함해 컴파운드에서 총 5개의 메달을 목에 걸었다.

이번 현대양궁월드컵은 50개국 514명의 선수가 참여한 대규모 국제대회로 특히 오랜 시간 동안 예천과 대한민국 양궁 발전을 위해 애써온 인사들이 대거 참석해 경기를 관람하며 대회 관계자들과 선수들을 격려했다.

전 한국중고양궁연맹 회장인 김수남, 이현준 전 군수와 오랜 시간 경북양궁협회장을 맡으며 양궁 저변확대와 선수 육성에 애써온 김도영 전 회장, 그리고 예천진호국제양궁장의 주인공인 김진호 교수와 김수녕, 장용호, 윤옥희 등 예천 출신 올림픽 금메달리스트들도 경기장을 찾아와 응원하고, 메달리스트들에게 양궁월드컵 기념상품인 코니페디 인형을 전달했다.

또한 참가국 50개국 중 우리나라를 포함해 14개 국가에 한국인 양궁 지도자가 포진하면서 세계로 뻗어나간 한국 양궁의 힘을 드러냈다.

예천군의 마스코트인 코니 페디 캐릭터를 활용한 현대양궁월드컵 기념품이 선수단과 코치진은 물론 대회장을 찾은 관람객들에게도 인기를 끌면서 예천을 홍보하는데 큰 역할을 했다.

김학동 예천군수는 “선의의 경쟁으로 멋진 경기를 보여준 모든 선수들과 경기장을 가득 메우고 열띤 응원을 해주신 주민 여러분들에게 감사하다”며, “현대양궁월드컵 대회를 예천에서 개최한 것에 큰 자부심을 느끼며, 이번 경기를 바탕으로 예천은 양궁의 도시로 더욱 크게 성장할 것”이라고 말했다.

Yecheon County Mayor Kim Hak-dong said, “I am grateful to all the players who showed a great game through friendly competition and to the residents who filled the stadium and cheered enthusiastically.” He added, “I feel great pride in hosting the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Yecheon. “Based on the competition, Yecheon will grow even bigger as an archery city,” he said.
