김정림 의원은 “양 대학의 통합은 지방대학의 소멸 위기 안에서 지역과 대학의 지속가능한 성장동력 확보를 위한 혁신 전략으로 추진되었다”라며, “제출된 통합대학교명은 양 대학이 소재한 지역의 정체성과 고유성은 담기지 않았으며, 교명안 선정 절차에도 문제가 있다”고 지적했다.

또한, ‘글로컬대학 30’으로 선정된 다른 지역 대학의 사례를 보면 긴 시간 검토 과정과 협의 과정을 통해 통합을 준비하고 있으며, 지역의 네임벨류를 살려 지역명을 그대로 연계한 통합대학교명 사용에 합의했다고 말했다.
