에코프로는 지난 29일 오후 포항시 북구 장량동 침촌지구 근린공원 에서 임직원 150여명이 참여한 가운데 ‘에코프로 클린데이’ 환경정 화활동을 실시했다고 30일 밝혔다.

이번 봉사활동은 장량동 주민들에게 깨끗한 주거환경을 제공하고 임직원들이 환경보전에 대한 지속적인 관심을 가질 수 있도록 도모하 고자 추진됐다.

장량동은 2010년대 들어 조성된 신도시로 인구가 7만 명에 달해 경 북도내 단일 읍면동 가운데 가장 인구가 많은 지역이며 에코프로 포 항캠퍼스가 자리잡고 있는 영일만일반산업단지와 인접해 에코프로 임 직원 거주지 중 가장 높은 비중을 차지하는 행정구역이다.

에코프로는 그동안 포항캠퍼스 주변 위주로 진행했던 임직원 환경 정화활동을 올해 처음으로 인근 장량동 주거지역까지 확대 실시하기 로 했고 장량동과 협의를 통해 장량동의 새로운 구획정리지구인 침촌 지구에 조성돼 있어 인근 아파트단지 주민들의 휴식 및 여가 공간으 로 활용되고 있는 침촌지구 근린공원을 첫 대상지로 선정했다.

이날 환경정화활동에 참여한 에코프로 임직원들은 침촌지구 근린공 원 주변을 플로깅하며 도로와 잔디 등에 버려진 쓰레기를 직접 수거 했다.

에코프로 임직원들은 “포항 장량동은 임직원 가족이 가장 많이 사 는 동네라 평소 친숙한데 이곳에서 동료들과 함께 직접 걸으며 주변 을 깨끗하게 만드는 활동이 뜻깊은 시간으로 와닿았다”고 입을 모았다.

에코프로는 이번 환경정화활동에 이어 올 하반기에는 포항지역 앞 바다에 버려진 해양쓰레기와 폐어구 등을 수거하는 해양환경정화활동 도 진행해 해양 환경보전에도 힘을 보탤 계획이다.

에코프로 관계자는 “주민들이 휴식 공간으로 이용하고 있는 근린 공원을 깨끗하게 만들어 건강한 여가생활을 즐길 수 있도록 힘을 보 태고자 이번 환경정화활동을 마련했다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회와 끈 끈한 협력관계를 유지하며 주민들이 필요로 하는 분야에 다양한 봉사 및 후원활동을 펼치도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
