지난주 한국갤럽의 여론조사에서 윤석열 대통령의 국정수행 지지율이 21%로 나오자 설왕설래가 잦다. 더 떨어질 것이라는 견해가 적어도 언론에서는 주류적으로 표출된다. 그러나 나는 이제 윤 대통령의 지지율이 바닥을 친 것으로 본다. 즉 이제 큰 폭은 아니더라도 서서히 반등을 해나갈 것으로 본다. 그 이유는 다음과 같다.

첫째 김민전 의원이 전임 문재인 대통령의 부인 김정숙 여사를 포함하여 세 김 여사의 특검을 주장한 것이 시의 적절했다. 사실 그렇지 않은가? 김정숙 여사와 김건희 여사의 궤를 벗어난 행동을 비교한다면 아주 큰 차가 난다. 이 문제를 우리의 건전한 이성과 그리고 사회 일반이 갖는 상식의 관점에서 바라보라. 너무나 명백한 일임에도 김건희 여사의 작은 잘못을 침소봉대하여 주요한 정치적 쟁점으로 만들 것 같으면 당연히 김정숙 여사의 큰 잘못도 함께 동일선상에 두고 바라봐야 한다.

그리고 이 문제가 문재인 전 대통령의 자서전 중 그에 관한 언급에서 촉발되었는데, 그 자서전의 내용이나 세 김 여사 특검 말을 전해들은 국민은 새삼 전임정권의 잘못에 눈을 돌렸다. 그러자 일시적으로 망각상태로 빠졌던 그 숱한 위선과 '내로남불(내가하면 로맨스 남이하면 불륜의 준말)'의 예들이 다시 생생한 모습으로 등장했다. “아, 그래서 10년 주기설을 물리치고 우리가 새로운 대통령과 정부를 탄생시켰지!”하는 각성의 물결이 서서히 일어나고 있음을 본다.

둘째 국민의힘이 황우여 비상대책위원장의 임시체제 하에서 안정을 찾아가고 있다는 점이다. 윤석열 대통령과 그가 겪은 정식 당 대표들과의 사이에서 형성되었던 원활하지 못한 당정관계가 황우여 위원장이 들어서고 나서 오히려 모범적 틀로 정착하는 기미를 보인다. 과거 당 대표들과 윤석열 대통령 사이에 일어났던 일들에 관해 윤석열 대통령도 많은 실책을 범했다. 하지만 모든 것이 그의 잘못만으로 나쁜 결과가 생긴 것은 아니다.
