【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코청암재단(이사장 김선욱)은 다리에서 투신하려던 남성을 붙잡아 생명을 구한 포항중앙여자고등학교 3학년 김은우 양(18)을 포스코히어로즈로 선정하고, 지난 10일 상패와 장학금을 전달했다.

재단에 따르면 지난 5월 12일 오후 9시경, 학원에서 자율학습을 마치고 귀가를 위해 포항 형산강 연일대교를 도보로 건너던 김은우 양은 강으로 뛰어내리기 위해 다리 난간을 넘어가려 하는 40대 남성 A씨를 발견했다.

김은우 양은 달려가 A씨가 강으로 뛰어내리지 못하게 다리를 붙잡고 경북경찰청 112 치안종합상황실로 신고를 했다. 경찰이 도착하기까지 3분 여 동안 김 씨는 필사적으로 A씨의 다리를 붙잡고 “제발 살아달라”고 설득했고, 김은우 씨의 따뜻하고 용기 있는 행동으로 A씨는 도착한 경찰에 의해 무사히 구조됐다.

김은우 양은 “무조건 아저씨를 살려야겠다는 일념으로 아저씨 다리를 붙잡고 있었다”며 “아저씨가 살아서 정말 다행이다”라고 말했다.

 POSCO TJ Park Foundation selects high school students as POSCO Heroes for saving precious lives

On the 10th, POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman Seon-wook Kim) selected Eun-woo Kim (18), a third-year student at Pohang Jungang Girls' High School, as a POSCO Hero who saved the life of a man who was about to jump from a bridge, and presented her with a plaque and scholarship.

At around 9 p.m. on May 12, Eun-Woo Kim was walking across the Yeonil Bridge over the Hyeongsan River in Pohang to return home after completing self-study at the academy when she noticed Mr. A, a man in his 40s, trying to climb over the railing of the bridge to jump into the river.

Miss Kim Eun-woo ran and held Mr. A's legs to prevent him from jumping into the river, and reported it to the Gyeongbuk Police Agency's 112 General Security Situation Room. For about 3 minutes until the police arrived, Mr. Kim desperately held on to Mr. A's leg and persuaded him to "please live." Thanks to Kim Eun-woo's warm and courageous actions, Mr. A was safely rescued by the arriving police.

Miss Kim Eun-woo said, “I was holding on to the man’s leg with the sole intention of saving him,” and added, “I’m so glad that the man is alive.”

The POSCO Heroes Fellowship is a project that provides scholarships to righteous people or children of righteous people who have sacrificed themselves for the sake of the country and social justice with the attitude of a saint, so that they can continue their studies in a stable manner.

POSCO TJ Park Foundation has been actively seeking out public officials and ordinary citizens who serve as social examples since 2019 with the purpose of increasing social interest in righteous behavior and creating a just society where members of our society can help each other even in difficult situations.
