시의회에 따르면 이번 방문은 9대 후반기 출범과 함께 의정활동 방향을 알리고 각계각층의의견을 청취하며 소통과 참여의 의정을 구현하기 위해 추진됐다.

이날 의회는 해병대 제1사단과 해병대교육훈련단, 해군항공사령부를 방문해 국토방위에 헌신하는 장병들의 노고에 감사의 마음을 전하고, 지역 안보와 안전을 위해 서로 협력할 것을 당부하며 지역 군부대 지원 확대를 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

또한 학도의용군 포항시지회, 대한노인회 포항시지회, 포항시 장애인단체 연합회, 포항시 재향군인회, 월남전참전자회 포항시지회, 6․25참전유공자회 포항시지회 등 12곳의 보훈․노인․장애인 단체를 방문해 인사와 함께 운영현황과 건의사항을 들으며 소통의 시간을 가졌다.

방문을 마친 김일만 의장은“제9대 후반기 의회는 앞으로도 다양한 계층과 현장의 목소리에 귀 기울이며, 시민중심, 현장중심의 의정활동을 펼쳐 나가겠다”고 각오를 다졌다.
