【브레이크뉴스】박정대 기자=멸종된 독도강치(바다사자)를 움직이는 친환경 강치모형으로 만들어 복원한 기업이 있어 화제가 되고 있다. 

독도강치 모형 제품을 만든 친환경 제품 생산업체인 메디아앤메디올로지 박정하 대표는 8월26일 “독도의 상징적인 존재였던 독도강치를 통해 독도의 역사와 자연환경의 소중함을 일깨워주고 싶었다”고 의미를 부여했다. 또 독도강치가 ‘독도수비대’란 상징의 동물로 다시 태어났으면 하는 바람도 담겨있다고 한다.

박정하 대표는 그간 발견된 독도강치 뼈에서 DNA가 검출된 만큼 앞으로 독도강치가 복원되는 데 미력이나마 힘을 모으겠다고 강조했다. 다음은 박정화 대표와 가진 일문일답이다.

-멸종된 독도강치 모형을 만들게 된 계기는?

▲멸종된 독도강치 모형을 만들게 된 계기는 우리나라의 멸종동물과 기억해야 할 문화유산 등에 대한 소중함을 알리고자 한 것입니다. 그리고 이러한 주제에 대해서 그동안 다양한 모형 제품을 만들어 왔습니다.

독도강치는 한 때 독도의 상징적인 존재였지만, 일본의 무분별한 남획으로 인해 멸종된 동물입니다. 이 작품을 통해 잊혀져 가는 독도강치에 대한 이야기를 사람들에게 다시 상기시키고,  자연환경을 보호하는 책임을 더 깊이 인식하도록 하고 싶었습니다.

-독도의 상징이었던 독도강치의 복원에 도움이 될까요.

▲현재 정부와 관련 기관에서 2014년부터 울릉도와 독도에서 발견된 독도강치 뼈를 이용하여 유전자 분석과 복원을 위한 연구를 진행하고 있다고 들었습니다. 이 제품을 통해 그런 분위기가 더욱 조성하는 데 도움이 되었으면 합니다. 나아가 독도강치가 ‘독도수비대’ 역할을 하면 얼마나 좋을까하는 바람도 가지고 있습니다.
