이날 주낙영 시장은 이동협 시의회 의장, 최준식 경주농협 조합장, 안영석 경주농협특수미쌀작목회 회장 및 회원 등과 벼베기 현장을 방문해 수확의 기쁨을 함께 나눴다.

주 시장은 먼저 벼 작황을 점검한 후 직접 콤바인에 시승해 벼베기 작업을 시연하며 농민들이 키운 벼를 수확하는 체험을 진행하고 농민들과 오찬을 나누며 벼농사 재배에 대한 애로사항을 청취하고 격려했다.

이번에 수확한 쌀은 조생종인 해담벼로 지난 4월 21일 첫 모내기를 했다. 경주농협특수미쌀작목회(34호)는 이번 첫 벼베기를 시작으로 130㏊에서 쌀 660톤을 수확할 계획이며 이후 수확한 쌀은 경주농협을 통해 이사금 쌀로 출하된다.

주낙영 시장은 “올해는 폭우와 폭염으로 어려움이 있었지만 모두의 노력으로 큰 피해 없이 벼를 수확할 수 있었다”라며 “수확기가 끝날 때까지 좋은 날씨가 이어져 풍년 농사가 되길 기원한다”고 말했다.
