15일 울진군에 따르면 군은 스포츠 마케팅을 통한 지역경제 활성화 촉진에 나서고 있다.

2023년 울진군 용역 조사결과에 따르면, 연간 20회 가량의 스포츠대회는생산유발효과 총 26,529백만 원, 부가가치유발효과 13,468백만 원, 취업유발효과 384명 등 경제적 파급효과가 파생되어 지역경제 활성화에 대한기여도가 높은 것으로 분석됐다.

이에 울진군은 전국에서 초미세먼지가 가장 낮은 도시라는 지역의 장점과 잘 갖추어진 인프라를 활용한 스포츠마케팅으로 전국 단위의 스포츠대회 및 다양한 종목의 지역대회의 성공적인개최를 스포츠 도시로서의위상을 높이고 있다.

군은 그동안 전국 최대 규모의 중등축구 대회인‘2024 울진금강송 춘계중등 U15축구대회’를 시작으로 마지막 경기인‘제20회 전국 울진 트라이애슬론대회’까지 축구, 배구, 야구 등 구기 종목뿐만 아니라, 트라이애슬론·비치발리볼 등 국내에서 보기 드문 해양스포츠 종목 등 20여 차례의 전국단위 대회를 개최해 왔다.

특히 백암온천배·울진금강송배 유소년 축구대회는 물론 상대적으로축구대회의 참여기회가 적은 중등 1학년을 위한 축구 페스티벌을 통해 천연잔디구장을 2면이나 보유한 스포츠도시로의 위상을 드높이는 등 지역 홍보 역할도 톡톡히 하고 있다.

울진군의 전국 마라톤대회는가을의 시작을 알리는 상징적인 대회로 인식되고 있으며, 올해20회째를 맞이한 트라이애슬론대회는 전국의 철인3종 마니아들이 찾는 대표대회로 자리매김하고 있다.

다양한 스포츠대회와 더불어 온천·산림·바다 등 천혜의 생태재원을연계한 전국 유일‘삼욕(三浴; 해수풍욕·온천욕·산림욕)의‘웰빙스포츠전지훈련’유치를 통해 올 한해도 50여개의 팀, 2천여명이 울진군을 방문하여 동계훈련을 가졌다.

특히 교통의 불편함 등의 지역적 한계점 보완을 위해,공공체육시설 무료 사용, 타 훈련시설 사용 지원, 지역 주요 관광지할인권을 제공, 체류기간에 따른 훈련지원금 지원 등의 차별화된 전지훈련 지원 인센티브를 제공하여 전지훈련의 메카로 거듭나고 있다.

울진군은 생활체육 활성화와 스포츠 저변확대를 위한 체육 인프라 구축에도 앞장서고 있다.

최근에 개관한 남울진 국민체육센터를 포함하여 수영장이 포함된 체육시설을 2개소 운영 중이다. 또한 생활체육시설 확충의 일환으로 노후화된 군민체육관을 대체하고 울진군 체육회 및 주민들의 지속적이 요구를 반영하여 국도비 보조금 72억원을 포함한 총사업비 490억원을 투입하여 실내에서 즐길 수 있는 최대규격 운동인 핸드볼장보다 더 큰 규모(7,000㎡, 지상2층)의실내체육관을 건립하기 위해 각종 인허가 및 설계를 추진 중에 있으며, 전지훈련 및 도 단위 이상의 대회 유치 등을 위해 온정면 백암운동장내 보조경기장 확장을 위해 설계 중에 있다.

또한 우기시에도 운동을 꾸준히 할 수 있도록 종합운동장 내 풋살장 및 족구장 내 비가림시설을 설치하고 있다.

아울러 남녀노소 전 연령층이 즐길 수 있는 대중적 스포츠로 자리잡은 파크골프장을 2개소(왕피천 36홀, 평해 9홀)운영 중이며, 평해(월송) 36홀과 기성 9홀 등 추가 조성 중이다.

더불어 파크골프 동호인수요에 대응하고자 대규모 파크골프장(명품 파크골프) 조성을 계획하고 있다.

군은 이러한 체육 인프라 구축을 통해 군민들의 건강 증진을 도모하고 각종체육대회 개최 및 스포츠 관광객들의 많은 방문을 유도하여 지역경제에 활기를 불어 넣는다는 계획이다.
