【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=DGIST는 설립 20주년을 맞아 ‘재단법인 디지스트 발전재단(이하 발전재단)’을 공식 출범했다고 2일 밝혔다.

재단은  DGIST의 성장 동력을 강화하기 위해 다양한 기금을 조성하고 이를 통해 교육, 연구, 국제교류 등을 지원하기 위해 설립됐다.

이를 위해 지난 10월 8일 설립 등기를 완료했으며 지난달 29일 첫 정기이사회를 개최하고 본격적인 운영에 들어갔다.

발전재단 초대 이사장은 대구‧경북 지역의 대표 기업인 에스엘 주식회사의 이충곤 회장이 맡는다.

초대 임원으로는 이건우 DGIST 총장, 이인중 HS화성 명예회장, 서상기 한국과학우주청소년단 총재, 손일호 ㈜경창산업 대표이사 회장, 김상태 ㈜PHC 회장, 이재하 삼보모터스 회장, 박윤경 대구상공회의소 회장 겸 케이케이㈜ 대표이사 회장, 윤재호 경북상공회의소 회장 등이 추대됐다.

상임이사로는 김회준 DGIST 글로벌협력처장이 임명돼 재단 운영에 참여하게 된다.

재단은 학생 장학사업, 학술활동 지원, 연구 성과의 보급 및 사업화를 통해 핵심 과학기술 인재 양성과 지역 산업 발전에 기여할 방침이다.

이충곤 DGIST 발전재단 이사장은 “DGIST는 대한민국의 과학기술 발전을 선도하는 핵심 연구 교육기관으로서 지역사회와 함께 성장해왔다”며 “발전재단은 DGIST가 글로벌 연구대학으로 도약하는 데 중추적인 역할을 할 것“이라고 밝혔다.

이건우 DGIST 총장은 “발전재단으로 기금 모금의 다원화를 통해 교육 및 연구 경쟁력을 강화하는 데 필요한 재원을 마련하고 DGIST의 성장을 더욱 가속화하는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

Kim Hoe-jun, Director of the DGIST Global Cooperation Center, has been appointed as the standing director and will participate in the operation of the foundation.

The foundation plans to contribute to the development of key science and technology talents and the development of local industries through student scholarships, support for academic activities, and dissemination and commercialization of research results.

Lee Chung-gon, Chairman of the DGIST Development Foundation, said, “DGIST has grown together with the local community as a key research and education institution leading the development of science and technology in Korea,” and “The Development Foundation will play a pivotal role in helping DGIST leap forward as a global research university.”

Lee Gun-woo, President of DGIST, said, “As the Development Foundation, we will do our best to secure the necessary financial resources to strengthen education and research competitiveness through diversification of fundraising and to further accelerate the growth of DGIST.”
