【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=경주시는 10일 경주화백컨벤션센터에서 열린 ‘중소벤처기업부 운영성과 평가 대통령상 수상 및 시상식’에서 ‘경주 유소년 스포츠 특구’가 중소벤처기업부 주관 ‘2024년 지역특구 평가’에서 전국 1위에 올라 대통령상을 수상하는 영광을 차지했다.

지역특화발전특구 제도는 지역 특성을 활용해 규제특례를 적용, 지역경제 활성화와 균형발전을 도모하는 정책이다.

올해 평가는 전국 181개 특구를 대상으로 서면 심사, 현장 실사, 대국민 평가 등을 통해 우수 특구를 선정했다.

‘경주 유소년 스포츠 특구’는 2016년 특구 지정 이후, △도로교통법 △옥외광고물관리법 △도로법에 대한 규제특례를 활용하며 유소년 스포츠 인프라를 구축하고, 전국 유소년 대회를 성공적으로 개최하는 등 지역 경제와 관광 활성화에 기여했다.

주요 성과로는 △화랑대기전국유소년축구대회 △전국 유소년 야구대회 △전국 유소년 태권도대회 △유소년 스포츠 교실 운영 등이 있다.

이러한 사업들은 유소년 스포츠와 문화 체험을 결합한 혁신적 모델로 평가받았다.

경주시는 스포츠 산업의 중심지로 자리매김하며, 대한민국 유소년 스포츠 발전과 지역 경제 활성화에 크게 기여한 것으로 높은 점수를 받았다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 대통령상 수상은 경주시민과 관계자 모두의 노력 덕분”이라며, “내년 특구 지정 기간 만료를 앞두고 연장을 신청해 유소년 스포츠 특구를 지속 발전시키겠다”고 말했다.

한편 경주시는 향후 유소년 스포츠 산업의 경쟁력을 강화하고, 특구를 기반으로 지역 경제 활성화를 위한 다양한 정책을 추진할 계획이다.

This year’s evaluation selected excellent special zones through written examinations, on-site inspections, and public evaluations of 181 special zones nationwide.

Since being designated as a special zone in 2016, the ‘Gyeongju Youth Sports Special Zone’ has contributed to the local economy and tourism by utilizing regulatory exceptions to the Road Traffic Act, Outdoor Advertisement Management Act, and Road Act, establishing youth sports infrastructure, and successfully hosting national youth competitions.

Major achievements include the Hwarangdae National Youth Soccer Tournament, National Youth Baseball Tournament, National Youth Taekwondo Tournament, and operating youth sports classes.

These projects were evaluated as innovative models that combined youth sports and cultural experiences.

Gyeongju City received high scores for establishing itself as a center of the sports industry and contributing greatly to the development of youth sports in Korea and the revitalization of the local economy.

Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “This presidential award is thanks to the efforts of both Gyeongju citizens and related parties,” and added, “We will apply for an extension ahead of the expiration of the special zone designation period next year to continue developing the youth sports special zone.”

Meanwhile, Gyeongju City plans to strengthen the competitiveness of the youth sports industry in the future and promote various policies to revitalize the local economy based on the special zone.
