협약은 ▶중부내륙선 철도 개통에 따른 공동 관광상품 개발 및 기획 ▶지역 특화 문화예술상품 기획 및 협업 마케팅 ▶문화관광 연구사업 협력 및 학술 교류 ▶유교문화 관광콘텐츠 사업교류 및 공동 마케팅 등의 내용을 포함한다.

경북 문경과 충북 청주는 문경새재와 수안보온천 등 지역을 대표하는 관광명소 보유에 비해, 수도권 관광객의 교통편의 및 접근성이 다소 아쉬웠지만 이번 내륙철도 개통으로 교통뿐만 아니라, 산업과 관광의 활성화에 촉매제가 될 예정이다.
