대구시에 따르면 이번 업무협약은 기존 SPC 방식에서 대구시 공영개발 방식으로 TK신공항 건설사업을 전환함에 따라 향후 대규모 사업 재원 차입을 앞두고 이뤄졌다.

대구시는 지난해부터 일반 재정사업과 구분하여 TK신공항건설기금을 설치·운용하고 있는데, 이번 협약을 통해 TK신공항 및 종전부지 개발사업 추진에 따른 대규모 사업자금을 운용하는 TK신공항건설기금의 출납, 보관 등을 수행할 금융기관으로 iM뱅크를 지정했다.

iM뱅크는 앞으로 대규모 사업 재원의 운용으로 자금 유동성이 커지는 만큼 대구시에 TK신공항 사업에 대한 우대금융 제공 등 필요한 지원을 위해 적극 협력하기로 했다.

대구시는 TK신공항건설기금 운용 지정 금융기관으로 iM뱅크를 선정됨에 따라 대규모 자금의 역외 유출을 막고 풍부한 유동성을 바탕으로 지역 소상공인과 기업에 대한 자금지원을 확대하는 등 대구경제 도약의 계기를 마련할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

황병우 iM뱅크 은행장은 “TK신공항 건설사업의 안정적인 추진을 위해 대구시와 적극 협력하고 지역은행으로서 지역의 발전을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, TK신공항건설기금을 통한 공공자금관리기금 차입 규모는 약 13조 원 규모로 추산되며, 민·군 공항 통합시공을 위한 정부 재정과 종전부지 분양 수입 등을 더하면 향후 34조원에 달하는 자금이 유입될 것으로 전망된다.

홍준표 시장은 “엄중한 국내 정치 상황에도 대구 100년 미래 번영을 이끌 TK신공항과 종전부지 개발사업은 한 치의 흔들림 없이 추진 될 것이다”며, “전국구 시중은행으로 발돋움한 iM뱅크가 이번 협약에 따른 자금 유동성과 여력을 바탕으로 지역사회에 더 크게 기여하고 지역민에게 변함없이 사랑받는 금융기관이 되기를 희망한다”고 말했다.
