대구시에 따르면 이번에 선정된 ‘금호강 궁산 생태탐방로 조성’ 사업은 금호강 강창교~세천교 구간 궁산 주변에 수변 탐방로 2.5㎞를 조성하는 사업으로 총사업비 60억 원(국비 30억 원, 시비 30억 원)이며 2027년까지 완료를 목표로 한다.

이번 사업 구간은 금호강과 궁산을 활용한 단절된 산책로를 물리적으로 연결하는 것과 생태적 가치가 우수한 궁산 하식애 주변의 훼손된 수변공간 정비를 통해 생태복원을 추진하는 등 인간과 자연이 공존하는 공간으로 조성할 계획이다.

이로써, 2023년부터 추진 중인 ‘금호강 국가생태탐방로 조성’ 사업이 올해 6월 완공되고, 대구시의 건의로 국가가 직접 시행 중인 동변지구, 고모지구 등의 산책로도 차질 없이 추진되고 있어 금호강 100리길이 서서히 윤곽을 드러내고 있다.

앞으로 2030년이면 금호강은 대구를 남북으로 단절시키는 과거의 강이 아니라, 대구를 하나로 연결하는 대구 미래 50년의 중추적 역할을 하는 강이 될 것으로 기대한다.
