이를 위해 포항시는 기후변화 대응 및 온실가스 저감과 수소 모빌리티 생태계 구축을 목표로 수소전기차 구매 시 보조금을 지원한다.

올해 114억 원을 투입해 수소 승용차 91대와 수소 버스 24대를 보급한다는 방침이다.

보조금을 신청할 수 있는 차종은 중형 SUV ‘넥쏘(현대자동차)’와 ‘유니버스(현대자동차)’이며, 수소차 구매 시 승용은 1대당 3,250만 원, 버스는 1대당 3억 5,000만 원의 보조금을 지원할 계획이다.

지원 대상은 포항시에 주민등록상 주소를 둔 개인(90일 이상) 및 법인·기업, 지방공공기관·지방공기업 등이며, 우선 접수순으로 보조금이 지급된다.

보조금 신청은 수소차 판매대리점에서 진행되는 만큼 구매자가 계약체결 후 지원신청서 작성만 하면 된다.

한편 포항시는 지난해 수소 버스 약 160대를 하루에 충전할 수 있는 용량을 가진 경북 최대 규모인 장흥 수소 충전소를 사업 개시한데 이어 오는 2026년 완공을 목표로 영일만4산업단지에 ‘북부권 버스 공영차고지 액화수소 기반 수소 교통 복합기지’를 구축 중에 있다.

포항시는 안정적인 수소 공급으로 지역 내 수소 충전 인프라를 확충하는 한편 수소차 보급 및 충전 문제의 어려움을 해소하고 수소 차량 대중화 및 수소 모빌리티 전환을 가속화한다는 방침이다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “수소차 보급으로 친환경 교통수단의 대중화를 촉진하고, 수소 차량 이용자들의 편의를 위해 충전 인프라도 지속 확대해 나갈 계획”이라며 “포항시가 수소 모빌리티 선도 도시로 거듭날 수 있도록 시민과 기업의 많은 관심과 참여를 바란다”고 말했다.
