【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=대구광역시는 2월 10일자로 대구 불광사 소장 ‘지장시왕도’를 대구광역시 유형문화유산으로 지정했다고 밝혔다.

대구시에 따르면 지장시왕도(地藏十王圖)는 지장보살을 본존으로 하여 명부(冥府, 염라대왕이 있는 저승)에 있는 10명의 시왕을 함께 그린 불화를 일컫는다.

그 중 ‘대구 불광사 지장시왕도’는 지장보살을 중심으로 명부의 모든 권속들과 육광보살을 표현하고 있어 지장시왕도 형식 가운데 가장 복잡한 형식을 띠고 있다.

이 지장시왕도는 비단에 채색한 불화로, 1747년(영조 23)에 자환(自還)이 수화승으로 제작했다.

자환은 팔공산 지역의 의균화파를 계승한 운부사(雲浮寺) 밀기(密機)의 제자로서 그의 작품에 보이는 적색과 녹색의 강한 대비, 가는 선을 사용한 인물 묘사는 팔공산화파의 18세기 양식을 잘 보여준다.

이 작품은 조성연대가 확실하고 18세기 전반의 지장시왕도로 희소성이 높으며, 화풍과 도상 또한 우수하고 보존 상태가 양호해 대구광역시 유형문화유산으로 지정하여 보존하게 됐다.

이재성 대구시 문화체육관광국장은 “문화유산적 가치가 뛰어난 대구 불광사 지장시왕도를 시 유형문화유산으로 신규 지정하면서, 우리 시는 총 334건의 국가유산을 보유하게 됐다”며, “앞으로도 지속적으로 국가유산을 신규 발굴하고 연구해 더 많은 유무형의 유산들을 보존하고, 다음 세대에 전승될 수 있도록 노력해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Daegu Metropolitan City announced on February 10 that it designated the ‘Jijangsiwangdo’ of Daegu Bulgwangsa as a tangible cultural heritage of Daegu Metropolitan City.

According to Daegu City, Jijangsiwangdo (地藏十王圖) refers to a Buddhist painting depicting the ten kings of hell (冥府, the underworld where King Yeomra resides) with Jijangbosal as the main deity.

Among them, ‘Daegu Bulgwangsa Jijangsiwangdo’ depicts all the attendants of hell and the six light bodhisattvas centered around Jijangbosal, making it the most complex form among the Jijangsiwangdo forms.

This Jijangsiwangdo is a Buddhist painting painted on silk, and was created by Ja-hwan (自還) as a Buddhist monk in 1747 (Yeongjo 23).

Ja-hwan was a disciple of Mil-gi (密機) of Unbu-sa (雲浮寺), who succeeded the Uigyunhwapa (義現花) school in the Palgongsan area. The strong contrast of red and green and the use of thin lines in the depiction of figures in his work are a good example of the 18th-century style of the Palgonghwapa school.

This work has a certain date of creation, is rare as a Jijang-siwangdo (密王台場) from the early 18th century, and is well-preserved due to its excellent painting style and iconography. It was designated as a tangible cultural heritage of Daegu Metropolitan City and preserved.

Lee Jae-seong, Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Daegu City, said, “With the new designation of the Jijang-siwangdo (密王台場) of Bulgwangsa Temple, which has outstanding cultural heritage value, as a tangible cultural heritage of the city, our city now possesses a total of 334 national heritages,” and added, “We will continue to discover and research new national heritages in the future to preserve more tangible and intangible heritages and pass them on to the next generation.”
