【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자= 포항시는 12일 철강·금속 산업의 디지털 대전환(DX, Digital Transformation)으로 대한민국 철강산업의 위기 극복을 넘어 제2의 영일만 기적을 실현하기 위한 원대한 비전을 선포했다.

이날 이강덕 포항시장을 비롯해 이철우 경상북도지사, 김일만 포항시의회 의장, 나주영 포항상공회의소 회장, 전익현 포항철강산업단지관리공단 이사장, 이동렬 포스코 포항제철소장 등 유관 기관장 및 디지털 기업대표 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘철강·금속 디지털 대전환 선포식’을 개최했다.

이번 행사는 최근 미국의 철강·알루미늄 대상 수입품목 25% 관세 적용 발표와 중국의 밀어내기식 수출, 저가 철강 공세 등 글로벌 공급 과잉과 경쟁 심화로 철강산업의 위기가 가속화되고 있는 가운데 디지털 대전환으로 위기 극복에 힘을 모으기 위해 마련됐다.

시는 산업 인공지능(AI) 전환을 핵심 전략으로 삼고, 철강산업에 첨단 디지털 기술을 접목한 새로운 산업 패러다임을 구축하기 위해 산업 AI 분야에서 최고의 역량을 가진 글로벌 기관장 및 기업들과 역량을 결집해 나가기로 뜻을 함께했다.

이날 선포식에서는 디지털전환 추진단을 출범하고, 지자체 및 협력 기관, IT기업, 철강기업 등 총 30개 기관·기업 간 디지털·AI 전환 생태계 조성을 위한 상호협력 업무 협약을 체결했다.

이번 협약에서 관련 기관들은 ▲산업 디지털·AI 전환을 위한 산학연 협력생태계 조성 ▲산업 데이터 표준화 확산 지원체계 구축 ▲산업군 내 AI 기술 공동 활용 협력 기반 마련 ▲핵심 전문인력 양성을 위한 인적 네트워크 구축 등 디지털·AI 전환 생태계 조성에 상호협력을 강화키로 했다.

또한 이날 경북산업DX협업지원센터장인 조현보 포스텍 교수는 ‘철강·금속산업 디지털 전환의 나아갈 방향’을 주제로 디지털·AI 전환이 가져올 미래 제조 산업을 전망하고 포항시가 나아가야 할 비전과 전략을 제시하며 눈길을 끌었다.

시는 이날 선포식을 시작으로 포항형 산업AI 기반의 협력생태계 조성에 타 지자체보다 한발 빠르게 움직이며, 차세대 미래 산업시장의 선점을 위한 정책 추진에 가속도를 낼 방침이다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “글로벌 철강산업의 위기에서 확인되듯 산업 AI 전환은 국가 경제·안보를 좌우하는 피할 수 없는 새로운 흐름“이라며, “포항형 산업 AX 전환으로 새로운 스마트제조 시대를 견인하기 위해 모든 역량을 집중하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 포항시는 지난해 ‘철강·금속 디지털전환 실증센터 구축사업’ 공모에 최종 선정돼 총 220억 원(국비 140억 원) 규모의 사업비를 확보한 바 있으며, 실증센터를 거점으로 미래 AI 전환(AX) 시대를 주도해 나간다는 계획이다.

이와 함께 산업 AX의 글로벌 초격차 경쟁력 확보를 위한 거점시설로 ‘국가AI컴퓨팅센터’의 지역 유치에 사활을 걸고 있다. 시는 2조 원대 규모의 예산을 투입해 인공지능 3대 강국(AI G3) 도약을 가속할 ‘국가 AI컴퓨팅 센터’를 지역에 반드시 유치해 지역기업의 AX 전환에 획기적인 기반을 마련할 방침이다.

Starting with the declaration ceremony on this day, the city plans to move faster than other local governments in creating a Pohang-style industrial AI-based cooperative ecosystem and accelerate policy implementation to preempt the next-generation future industrial market.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang said, “As confirmed by the crisis in the global steel industry, the transformation of industrial AI is an unavoidable new trend that affects the national economy and security,” and added, “We will focus all our capabilities to lead the new era of smart manufacturing through the transformation of the Pohang-style industrial AX.”

Meanwhile, Pohang City was finally selected for the ‘Steel and Metal Digital Transformation Demonstration Center Construction Project’ last year, securing a total project budget of KRW 22 billion (KRW 14 billion from the national budget), and plans to lead the future AI transformation (AX) era based on the demonstration center.

In addition, the city is putting its life on the line to attract the ‘National AI Computing Center’ to the region as a base facility to secure global super-gap competitiveness in industrial AX. The city plans to invest a budget of KRW 2 trillion to attract the ‘National AI Computing Center’ to the region to accelerate the leap to the top 3 artificial intelligence powerhouses (AI G3), and to lay a groundwork for the AX transformation of local companies.
