19일 경북도에 따르면 최근 동해중부선(포항울진), 중부내륙선(판교문경), 중앙선(안동~영천) 등 경북을 경유하는 철도 노선들이 새로 개통되면서, 경북은 철도관광의 새로운 기회를 맞이했다. 이에 따라 다양한 관광상품 개발과 연계 교통 시스템 개선이 추진될 예정이다.

경상북도는 철도관광 상품을 적극 개발하고, 철도역과 주요 관광지를 연결하는 교통 시스템을 개선하여 관광객들의 이동 편의성을 높일 계획이다. 또한, 백두대간 협곡열차(V-train), 동해-산타열차 등 경북의 관광지를 연결하는 관광열차를 홍보하고, 3월에는 기차여행 할인 프로모션 ‘반하다 경북’ 상품을 판매하여 더 많은 관광객을 경북으로 유치할 방침이다.

코레일관광개발은 2025 APEC 정상회의의 성공적인 경주 개최와 2025 경북 방문의 해와 연계해 경북을 배경으로 한 철도관광 상품을 개발하는 등 경북 관광 활성화에 협력할 계획이다. 특히, 권백신 사장은 경주 여행 특별상품과 경북의 역사, 문화, 축제, 특산물을 기차여행과 결합해 차별화된 관광상품을 개발할 것을 제안했다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “경북은 최근 철도 개통으로 관광에 새로운 활력을 얻고 있는 중요한 전환점을 맞았다”며, “코레일관광개발과의 협력을 통해 경북 철도 관광이 한 단계 도약할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
