28일 경북도에 따르면 이번 만남은 필리핀 일리간시장의 요청으로 이루어졌으며, 두 지방정부 간의 교류 및 협력, 정책 벤치마킹을 위한 자리가 됐다. 

이날 면담에서 시아오 시장은 새마을 운동의 발상지인 경북의 농축산 현장을 방문한 경험을 공유하며, 수력발전소 확장과 재생에너지 사업 협력 등 여러 당면 현안에 대해 논의했다.

시아오 시장은 "이번 방문을 통해 현장의 목소리를 직접 듣고, 시정에 적용할 수 있는 방안을 심도 있게 논의할 수 있었다"고 말했다. 또한, 일리간시의 번영과 발전을 위해 경북의 우수한 정책들을 계승하고 발전시킬 수 있는 기회를 마련한 뜻깊은 시간이었다고 덧붙였다.

양금희 경제부지사는 "필리핀은 대한민국의 자유민주주의를 지켜준 친구의 나라로, 이번에 귀한 손님이 경북을 방문하게 되어 매우 기쁘다"며, "이번 만남을 계기로 경제, 문화, 산업 등 다양한 분야에서 교류와 협력이 활성화되기를 바란다"고 전했다. 또한, 2025년 APEC 정상회의의 성공적인 개최를 위해 일리간시장의 관심과 성원을 부탁했다.

한편, 이날 일리간시장 일행은 포스코를 방문한 후 짧은 방한 일정을 마무리할 예정이다.

During the meeting that day, Mayor Siao shared his experience visiting the agricultural and livestock sites of Gyeongbuk, the birthplace of the Saemaul Movement, and discussed various pressing issues such as the expansion of hydroelectric power plants and cooperation in renewable energy projects.

Mayor Siao said, "Through this visit, I was able to hear the voices of the field directly and discuss in depth ways to apply them to city administration." He also added that it was a meaningful time that provided an opportunity to inherit and develop Gyeongbuk's excellent policies for the prosperity and development of Iligan City.

Yang Geum-hee, the Vice Governor for Economic Affairs, said, “The Philippines is a country of friends that has protected the liberal democracy of the Republic of Korea, and I am very happy that our distinguished guest is visiting Gyeongbuk this time,” and added, “I hope that this meeting will serve as an opportunity for exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as economy, culture, and industry.” He also asked for the interest and support of the Iligan mayor for the successful hosting of the 2025 APEC Summit.

Meanwhile, the Iligan mayor and his delegation will conclude their short visit to Korea after visiting POSCO.
