단속의 주요 대상은 △전조등 및 소음기 등 불법 튜닝, △안전기준 위반, △미사용 신고 운행, △번호판 미부착·훼손·가림 등 자동차관리 법령을 위반한 이륜자동차이다. 이와 같은 위반 행위에 대해서는 전조등 및 소음기 불법 튜닝의 경우 1년 이하의 징역형 또는 1,000만 원 이하의 벌금, 안전기준 위반 시 100만 원 이하의 과태료와 원상 복구 명령이 부과된다. 또한, 번호판 훼손 및 가림은 300만 원 이하의 과태료, 미사용 신고 및 번호판 미부착 운행은 100만 원 이하의 과태료를 부과할 계획이다.

이번 단속에서는 특히 주행 중 상대방 운전자의 시야를 방해할 수 있는 등화장치 임의 설치 및 변경 등 교통사고를 초래할 위험이 있는 이륜자동차에 집중적으로 단속할 예정이다.

한편, 대구시에 등록된 이륜자동차는 2023년 120,486대에서 2024년 120,020대로 전년 대비 0.4% 감소했으며, 이륜자동차 교통사고는 2023년 1,054건에서 2024년 902건(잠정치)으로 14.4% 감소했다.
