【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=DGIST(총장 이건우)는 13일 ‘DGIST 공학전문대학원 구미캠퍼스(이하 DGIST 공전원)’ 개원식을 개최하고 본격적인 운영에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

DGIST 공전원은 지역 산업계에서 요구하는 핵심 기술 인재를 양성하고, 산학 연계를 통한 실질적인 기술 혁신을 이끌어낼 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

DGIST 공전원은 구미시와 경상북도, DGIST가 협력하여 설립한 산학 연계 공학 교육 기관으로, 총 20억 원의 출연금이 투입됐다. 이곳에서는 반도체, 인공지능(AI), 로봇 등 첨단산업 분야에 맞춘 맞춤형 교육을 제공하며, 지역 산업의 기술 경쟁력을 강화하는 데 중요한 기여를 할 예정이다. 

이날 개원식에는 이건우 DGIST 총장, 김장호 구미시장을 비롯한 지역 주요 산업계 인사들이 참석해 지역 혁신 생태계 조성의 새로운 출발을 함께 축하했다.

DGIST 공전원은 산업 현장의 수요에 맞춘 실무 중심 교육과 최첨단 연구 환경을 제공하며, 반도체, AI, 로봇 등 첨단 산업 분야에서 실전형 연구와 기업 연계 프로젝트를 운영한다. 1기 입학생으로는 12개 기업에서 13명의 재직자가 입학해 3월부터 실무 중심의 교육을 받고 있으며, 이를 통해 지역 산업의 기술 경쟁력 강화와 신기술 창출에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

이건우 DGIST 총장은 “DGIST는 연구 중심 대학으로서 산업 현장의 요구를 반영한 맞춤형 교육을 제공하며, 국가와 지역 산업 발전에 기여하겠다”며, “DGIST 공전원을 통해 산학 협력을 더욱 활성화하고, 산업계와 함께 혁신을 주도해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

김장호 구미시장은 “DGIST 공학전문대학원 구미캠퍼스 개원은 지역 산업의 지속적인 성장과 경쟁력 강화를 위한 중요한 전환점”이라며, “구미의 반도체, 방위산업, 로봇 산업 등이 세계적으로 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 강조했다.

한편, DGIST는 기업과의 협력을 확대해 실질적 기술 혁신을 주도하며, 글로벌 산업 트렌드에 맞춘 교육과 연구 모델을 더욱 발전시킬 계획이다. 

또한, 미래 융합 인재 양성을 위한 체계적 교육 프로그램을 구축하고, 국내외 연구기관 및 산업계와 협력해 국가 경제 및 지역 산업 발전에 기여하는 전략적 거점으로 자리매김할 예정이다.

It will provide customized education tailored to cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and robots, and will make a significant contribution to strengthening the technological competitiveness of the local industry.

At the opening ceremony that day, DGIST President Lee Kun-woo, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho, and other key figures from the local industry attended and celebrated the new beginning of the creation of a regional innovation ecosystem.

DGIST Engineering College provides practical education and a cutting-edge research environment tailored to the needs of the industrial field, and operates practical research and corporate-linked projects in cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors, AI, and robots. The first batch of students enrolled included 13 employees from 12 companies, who have been receiving practical education since March. Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi City said, “The opening of the DGIST Engineering College Gumi Campus is an important turning point for the continued growth and strengthening of competitiveness of local industries,” and emphasized, “We will spare no support so that Gumi’s semiconductor, defense, and robot industries can become globally competitive.”

Meanwhile, DGIST plans to expand cooperation with companies to lead practical technological innovation and further develop education and research models that are in line with global industry trends.

In addition, it plans to establish a systematic education program for fostering future convergence talents and establish itself as a strategic base that contributes to the national economy and regional industrial development by cooperating with domestic and international research institutes and industries.
