17일 시에 따르면 지난해 처음 시행된 초등학교 입학축하금 지원은 올해부터 3월에 맞춰 신입생들이 입학하는 시점에 맞춰 시행된다. 

3월 4일 기준으로 영천시 내 초등학교에 입학한 학생의 부모나 보호자는 3월 19일부터 11월 30일까지 주소지 읍면동 행정복지센터를 방문하여 신청하면 20만원을 영천 지역화폐 카드로 수령할 수 있다.

수령한 입학축하금 카드는 영천 지역화폐 가맹점 중 서적, 문구용품, 학원, 학습지, 종합의류·신발·가방, 스포츠 의류·용품 업종으로 등록된 곳에서 사용할 수 있다. 이는 입학축하금이 실제로 아동을 위해 사용될 수 있도록 업종을 지정하여 지원하는 방식이다.

입학축하금 카드는 올해 12월 15일까지 사용할 수 있으며, 사용 기한 내에 사용하지 않으면 카드에 남은 잔액은 소멸된다. 따라서 신청자는 기간 내에 사용을 완료해야 한다.

시는 지원 대상자가 모두 신청할 수 있도록 시내 초등학교와 협력해 1학년 신입생 학부모에게 안내문을 전달할 예정이다.

최기문 영천시장은 “입학축하금을 통해 학부모들에게 조금이나마 도움이 되기를 바란다”며, “신청 기간과 방법을 확인해 신입생 모두가 지원을 받을 수 있도록 하고, 앞으로도 아이 키우기 좋은 교육도시로 거듭날 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
