【브레이크뉴스 구미】진예솔 기자=국민의힘 구자근 국회의원(경북 구미갑)이 이스포츠 경기장의 설립과 운영을 지원할 수 있도록 법적 근거를 마련에 나섰다.

현행 이스포츠 진흥법상 이스포츠 시설에 대한 지원이 명시되어 있기는 하나 공식 이스포츠 경기장에 대한 별도 조항은 없는 실정이다.

구자근 의원이 문화체육관광부로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면 2025년 현재 전국적으로 운영 중인 이스포츠 공식 경기장은 13곳이며 이 중 정부 지원 경기장은 4곳뿐이다. 

이처럼 인프라가 부족해 이스포츠를 즐기는 일반 시민들의 경기는 대부분 PC방에서 이루어지는 등 지원이 절실한 상황이다.

이에 구자근 의원은 이스포츠 진흥법에 국가와 지자체가 이스포츠 경기장 설립과 운영에 대해 지원할 수 있도록 규정했다. 법적 근거가 마련되면서 정부의 이스포츠 인프라 구축 추진이 탄력을 받을 것으로 기대된다.

이와 함께 구 의원은 수도권 외의 지역에 건립되는 이스포츠 경기장을 우선적으로 고려할 수 있도록 명시했다. 현재 국내 공식 이스포츠 경기장은 14곳(1곳은 구축 중)으로 이 중 9곳이 수도권에 소재하고 있다.

구자근 의원은 “이스포츠는 대한민국을 대표하는 산업군인 동시에 많은 국민이 즐기는 여가 생활”이라며 “지역의 이스포츠 인프라 확충을 통해 산업 육성 기반을 넓히고 문화·관광·교육 등 다양한 방식으로 활용하며 지역경제에도 큰 활력을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

People Power Party member of the National Assembly Koo Ja-geun (Gumi-gap, Gyeongbuk) has set out to establish a legal basis to support the establishment and operation of e-sports stadiums.

Although the current e-sports promotion law stipulates support for e-sports facilities, there are no separate provisions for official e-sports stadiums.

According to data submitted to Koo Ja-geun by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, there are currently 13 official e-sports stadiums operating nationwide as of 2025, of which only four are government-supported stadiums.

Due to the lack of infrastructure, most matches for ordinary citizens who enjoy e-sports are held at PC rooms, and support is urgently needed.

Accordingly, Koo Ja-geun stipulated in the e-sports promotion law that the state and local governments can support the establishment and operation of e-sports stadiums. With the legal basis established, the government's push to build e-sports infrastructure is expected to gain momentum.

In addition, Koo specified that e-sports stadiums built outside the metropolitan area will be given priority consideration. Currently, there are 14 official esports stadiums in Korea (one is under construction), of which 9 are located in the metropolitan area.

Rep. Koo Ja-geun said, “esports is a representative industry of the Republic of Korea and a leisure activity enjoyed by many citizens,” and added, “We expect that by expanding the regional esports infrastructure, we will be able to expand the foundation for fostering the industry and utilize it in various ways such as culture, tourism, and education, and greatly invigorate the local economy.”
