이를 위해 시는 지난 24일 송도동행정복지센터 평생학습교육장에서 주민설명회를 개최했다.

이번 설명회에는 포항문화관광협회, 포항시체육회 등 해양레저관광업계 관계자들과 영일만관광특구 지역 주민대표, 경북도 해양레저관광과 등이 참석해, 해양수산부의 공모사업에 대한 설명과 공모계획을 공유하며 현장의 의견을 들었다.

‘복합 해양레저관광도시’ 공모사업은 기존의 휴양 및 관광 인프라가 잘 갖춰진 지역에 신규 민간투자를 유치하여 대한민국 대표 해양레저관광도시로 육성하는 1조 원 규모의 국책사업이다. 민간투자 8,000억 원 이상을 확보한 지역이 사업지구로 응모할 수 있으며, 6월 최종 선정 시 국비 약 1,000억 원이 지원된다.

포항시는 이번 공모사업의 사업지구로 영일만관광특구를 중심으로 도심형 해양관광지 조성 계획을 추진 중이다. 현재까지 실무추진단 운영, 첨단해양R&D센터 구축·운영, 국제 해양레저대회 개최, 대규모 민자 유치 등 행정력을 집중하고 있다.

이번 주민설명회에서 나온 의견은 종합적으로 검토된 후, 오는 4월 말까지 경북도와 함께 해양수산부에 공모신청서를 제출할 예정이다. 이후 5월 중 평가를 거쳐, 6월에는 전국 2개소가 최종 선정될 예정이다.

손정호 해양수산국장은 “해양레저관광도시 조성 사업은 포항시의 미래 전략산업을 육성하고 지역 균형발전을 이끄는 핵심축이 될 것”이라며, “시민들과의 긴밀한 소통을 통해 공모사업 준비에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 포항시는 ‘1,000만 글로컬 관광도시’ 달성을 목표로 도심 중심지인 영일만관광특구 내 마이스(MICE) 산업의 중심지로 포항국제전시컨벤션센터(POEX)를 건립 중이다. 또한 체류형 관광 기반을 위한 영일대 및 환호지구 특급호텔 건립을 추진하고 있어, 해양수산부 공모사업에 선정될 경우 지역 관광산업의 시너지를 극대화할 것으로 기대되고 있다.

Pohang City Holds Resident Briefing Session to Promote ‘Complex Marine Leisure Tourism City’ Public Offering Project

Pohang City is promoting a public offering project to create a ‘complex marine leisure tourism city’ and has begun extensive communication with the local community.

To this end, the city held a public offering session at the Songdo-dong Administrative Welfare Center Lifelong Learning Education Center on the 24th.

The ‘Complex Marine Leisure Tourism City’ public offering project is a 1 trillion won national project that attracts new private investment to areas with well-established existing resort and tourism infrastructure and fosters them as representative marine leisure tourism cities in Korea. Areas that have secured more than 800 billion won in private investment can apply for the business district, and approximately 100 billion won in national funds will be supported when the final selection is made in June.

Pohang City is currently promoting a plan to create an urban marine tourism site centered on the Yeongil Bay Tourism Special Zone as the business district for this public offering. Currently, it is concentrating its administrative power on operating the working group, establishing and operating the advanced marine R&D center, hosting international marine leisure competitions, and attracting large-scale private investment.

The opinions presented at this resident briefing session will be comprehensively reviewed and an application for public offering will be submitted to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries together with Gyeongbuk Province by the end of April. After an evaluation in May, two locations nationwide will be finally selected in June.

Son Jeong-ho, Director of the Marine and Fisheries Bureau, said, “The marine leisure tourism city development project will be a key axis that fosters Pohang City’s future strategic industries and leads regional balanced development,” and added, “We will do our best to prepare for the public offering through close communication with citizens.”

Meanwhile, Pohang City is building the Pohang International Exhibition Convention Center (POEX) as the center of the MICE industry in the Yeongil Bay Tourism Special Zone, the center of the city, with the goal of achieving a ‘10 million global tourist city’. It is also promoting the construction of a special hotel in Yeongil-dae and Hwanho District for residential tourism, and if selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ public offering, it is expected to maximize the synergy of the local tourism industry.
