이번 공청회는 지역 주민들의 의견을 수렴하고, 계속운전에 따른 방사선 환경 영향에 대한 정보를 투명하게 공유하기 위한 자리로 마련됐다. 행사에는 경주시민 670여 명이 참석해 뜨거운 관심을 보였으며, 설명회와 질의응답이 활발히 진행됐다.

공청회는 ▲사업 추진 취지 및 평가서 초안 설명 ▲주민공람 기간 중 주요 의견 소개 ▲주민 질의 및 의견 진술 ▲한수원 측의 응답 순으로 진행됐다. 주민들은 월성 2·3·4호기 계속운전에 대해 지역사회와의 상생과 안전성 확보를 주문했으며, 일부는 사업이 지역경제 활성화로도 이어지기를 바란다고 밝혔다.

정원호 본부장은 “이번 공청회가 월성 원전 계속운전의 안전성과 투명성을 이해하는 계기가 되었기를 바란다”며, “앞으로도 주민과의 지속적인 소통과 신뢰 형성을 통해 안전하고 책임감 있는 원전 운영이 이루어질 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 강조했다.

한편, 한수원은 이날 공청회에서 수렴된 주민들의 의견을 반영하여 방사선환경영향평가서 최종본을 작성, 원자력안전위원회에 제출할 예정이다. 이번 절차는 월성 2·3·4호기 계속운전의 공공성과 신뢰성을 확보하는 핵심 과정으로 평가받고 있다.

Hanwha Solutions Holds Public Hearing on Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment for Continued Operation of Wolseong Units 2, 3, and 4

On Tuesday, April 8, the Wolseong Nuclear Power Headquarters (Director Won-ho Jeong) of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. held a public hearing on the ‘Draft Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report for Continued Operation of Wolseong Units 2, 3, and 4’ at the Purmoe House Gymnasium in Munmu-daewang-myeon, Gyeongju-si.

This public hearing was held to collect opinions from local residents and transparently share information on the radiation environmental impact of continued operation. Approximately 670 Gyeongju citizens attended the event, showing keen interest, and an explanatory session and Q&A session were actively held.

The public hearing was conducted in the following order: ▲ Explanation of the purpose of the project and the draft assessment report ▲ Introduction of major opinions during the public viewing period ▲ Residents’ Q&A and statement of opinions ▲ Response from Hanwha Solutions Residents requested coexistence with the local community and safety assurance regarding the continued operation of Wolseong Units 2, 3, and 4, and some expressed their hope that the project would also lead to the revitalization of the local economy.

Meanwhile, KHNP plans to prepare a final version of the Radiation Environmental Impact Assessment Report reflecting the opinions of residents collected at the public hearing and submit it to the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission. This procedure is considered a key process for securing the public nature and reliability of the continued operation of Wolseong Units 2, 3, and 4.
