이날 위원들은 형산강 수질오염 예방을 위한 환경 기반시설 중 하나인 철강관리공단 완충저류시설을 가장 먼저 찾았다. 해당 시설은 2,000㎥ 규모의 완충저류조와 56,800㎥ 용량의 비점오염저감시설을 갖추고 있으며, 위원들은 시설의 공정 상태를 직접 확인하고, 안전관리와 향후 유지 운영에 대한 사항을 면밀히 살폈다.

이후 위원들은 구무천 오염토 정화시설을 방문해 현장을 둘러봤다. 이 시설은 구무천 및 철강공단 유수지 등에서 발생한 오염 준설토를 자가 처리하는 시스템으로, 형산강으로 유입될 수 있는 오염물질을 사전에 정화하는 역할을 수행하고 있다.

위원들은 오염토가 처리되는 전 과정을 꼼꼼히 살펴보며, 정화 효율성과 환경 안전성 확보에 대한 점검을 이어갔다.

최해곤 위원장은 “구무천 생태하천 복원사업은 중금속 오염 문제를 해결하기 위해 반드시 필요한 사업”이라며 “반입토와 정화토에 대한 철저한 관리로 오염토가 외부로 유출되지 않도록 해야 하며, 시민의 건강과 환경 보전을 위한 책임감 있는 운영을 당부한다”고 강조했다.

포항시의회는 앞으로도 환경 관련 현안을 지속적으로 모니터링하며, 실질적인 개선과 시민 삶의 질 향상에 기여하겠다는 방침이다.
