【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도는 최근 발생한 산불로 긴급 대피했던 영양군의 한우 및 젖소 개량사업소 종축 286마리 전부가 안전하게 복귀 중이라고 14일 밝혔다.

이번 복귀는 지난달 26일 영양군 일대 산불 확산에 따라 한우 142마리, 젖소 144마리를 긴급 대피시킨 데 따른 후속 조치로, 지난주 젖소 123마리가 먼저 돌아온 데 이어, 11일부터 12일 사이에는 한우 전두수가 충남 서산 본원에서 영양으로 돌아왔고, 나머지 고양시에 있던 젖소 21마리도 이달 말 복귀할 예정이다.

경북 영양군에는 농협중앙회 한우개량사업소(입암면)와 젖소개량사업소(수비면)가 위치해 있으며, 이는 재난형 가축질병 발생 시 국가 자산인 종축 보호를 위한 분산시설로 운영되고 있다.

종축은 향후 1마리당 100억 원 이상의 가치로 평가되는 보증씨수소 후보들로, 이들의 손실은 국가 개량사업에 막대한 차질을 초래할 뻔한 사안이었다.

장호진 한우개량사업소 관리소장은 “차량에 막 싣기 직전, 불길이 예상보다 빠르게 밀려와 가축을 포기할 수밖에 없었다”며 “축사와 종축 모두 무사한 건 직원들이 불길을 막기 위해 잡목 제거와 살수작업 등 사전 대응을 한 덕분”이라고 긴박했던 당시 상황을 전했다.

경상북도는 재입식된 가축들에 대해 수의사 검진과 방역 조치를 실시하고 있으며, 개량사업소가 조속히 정상 기능을 회복할 수 있도록 행정적 지원을 이어간다는 방침이다.

김주령 경북도 농축산유통국장은 “종축은 수십 년의 개량 성과가 응축된 국가적 자산”이라며 “앞으로도 이 같은 중요 자원이 안전하게 관리되도록 만전을 기하겠다”고 말했다.
